dpatt67you are right on in your reply. then you have the people like me or my sister and her husband. in 1992 i bought my first new dodge truck and i have never had a car since other then my toy's. i would have an old truck for work and my wife would have the dodge to drive, plus it was a vehicle we could hit the road with. we had 1 vehicle that was a daily driver for her, a vacation vehicle ,and a truck to pull a camper all in one. 12 years and 6 new trucks later our pop up campers have grown into 6500 lb travel trailers, my open car trailer is now a 7000lb [with car] enclosed trailer but the truck still serves the same purpose. an every day work vehicle for wife a vacation vehicle and a heavy duty pulling truck all in one. since day one dodge has had a truck to fit our needs club cabs and now 3rd gen 4-door short beds. easy to drive and park , good every day vehicle during the week but if needed an animal to handle our kind of towing and still as nice as a caddy. our truck is flame red with mopar step bars, billet grill, mopar flaps and other than tail pipe, ctd emblem and 8 hole alloy wheels you wouldn't know it is a wolf in sheeps clothing. and its all wraped in 1 little package. on top of that you take a vehicle that can do all this and get awsome fuel mileage what more could a truck owner ask for. that is why fuel mileage is important to us.

new diesel owner here. bought my 04 2500 short bed 4- door 2 wks ago and i really like the truck. highway depending on wind i get 21 -23 mpg since it had 11 miles on it. my sister and her husband bought same style dodge a week later and when we compared mpg they are getting 14-16 at best. well now i know why!i never had a diesel before so the first thing i ask salesman when we looked at the ram that i bought was is this the 325 hp 600 and he said yes all 04 rams are the 600, so i said good that is what i want. so we test drove it, my wife and i and my sister and her husband. we all liked the truck so i got one and a week later so did they. i was bragging about my mileage and when we compared the two something didn't seem right. about 7 mpg difference. so i was looking at window stickers and noticed their truck had 325 -600 on sticker and mine didn't. then i started comparing both trucks under hood, i have a new 8-23-03 build date ctd 305- 355 and they have a 1-24-04 build date 325-600 boy was i p-----. but then i thought much better fuel mileage and it has so much power that i couldn't be happier. after looking i can see 5or 6 changes under hood between the 2 trucks. called salesman and he didn't know they made a 04 1/2. i told him that its a good thing that i like this 04 or we would have a big problem. so all in all i think i am better off with this 305-355.
Your salesman is a LIAR,LIAR,LIAR. I wouldn't be concerned between a 555 and a 600 as long as you got a better deal on the 555 compared to what your brother in law paid for the 600.
