Max Brake display failure fix

Fifth Wheel Jacks broken

I don't remember where but I saw an advertisement or price listing for a new Lance slide-in camper with a price tag of $40k somewhere recently. Wow!

$40K is a ridicules price to pay for any truck slide in camper, however THIS with a side door, is the most expensive one I saw at $30,450 list, which doesn't include a generator. You can alway get one at 25% off of list and with our bad economy, maybe even cheaper.

Well the wife and I broke down and bought a new to us 5ver, its not the one we really wanted but its a great stepping stone towards the New Horizon we dream about. We had a 1984 35' Jayco that I have completely redone. Friday we bought a 2006 Newmar Cypress 37 SKCL, we bought it 5k below book and its a big step from the old Jayco, we will stay in it for 4 or 5 years and then try and move to a New Horizon.

Tim, congratulations on your, new to you, purchase of your Cypress 5th wheel. The 2006 37 SKCL Cypress by Newmar is 41' long and it's GVWR is 16,250 lbs. That's a lot of trailer for a weekend camping trip, unless your fulltiming. Although it's not a New Horizon, it' still an impressive 5er.

Congratulations. Newmar builds good products.

Did you buy it from NuWa @ Chanute? I think I remember seeing one listed in their used inventory on their website.

Thanks George and Harvey, we bought it from a dealer in Great Bend, it was there on consignment and the guy was really needing to get out from under it. I was told he was upside down in it about 8K. Ouch!!!

You saidyou and your wife were going to stay in it for 4 or 5 years before moving up. It sounds like you are fulltimers like we are. Hope you enjoy it as well as we do. Good luck and happy travels.

I am looking to purchase over the next six months

I am looking at two Sunnybrook brand units. Either the Brookside models 276fwscs or 290 fwrls. The second is BristolBay model 3150 or 3155. Both models I am looking at purchasing completely loaded prices are within pricing appears to be within 3000. 00 of one another depending where you look. I plan to use this rv alot and plan to see all of the lower 48 states I will be retiring over the next five years and would like to have the unit paid for by then. The insulation in the brookside seems to be lacking but I like the aluminum superstructure which includes the roof. The bristolbay insulation is well up to par. If I am not living in this thing full time does the insulation really matter? I only herd sunnybrook mentioned one time I am wondering why they look like a very well build trailer.

Lastly, I currently have a 2000 fleeetwood mallard that I don't even want to get started on the water leaks from day one. We all know fleetwood made junk and is no longer in business. I do have to say I am in Pa and have traveled the entire eastern coast from capecode to florida over the years mostly a favorite is murtle beach and disney world. If it were not for the water damage that wasn't a bad trailer the oly other problem I had two years ago when on a trip to the outer banks NC was the sencor for the water heater which i fixed for 15 bucks.

So what does everyone think about my Sunnybrook idea????

If it were me I would go with the Brookside. I don't think there is that much difference in insulation and I just like the aluminum frame. The windows are where most of the cold and hot air come in so the only other thing is the floor plan. Get one that you and your wife will be happy with.

Definitly lowball the price - like 1/2 asking + go from there. I think it's still a pretty soft market for selling these things.

Both are good 4 star rated. Go with which ever you like best. Beat them down to 50 to 70% of list.

I don't know anything about Sunnybrook trailers so can't comment about quality, etc.

OP asked if insulation matters. Yes, it matters very much regardless of usage. In the hot summers of the southwest or middle west you will quickly regret not buying one if it is not well insulated because after a day of travel the ac unit won't be able to cool it down enough for you to sleep. Likewise if you use it during winter months farther north you'll spend a fortune on lpg trying to keep it warm.

I like a bargain like everyone else but how do you expect to pay 50% of list for a new RV?

You shop around. With this soft market on RV's you might be able to get 50%. I do believe that 30% off of list is very obtainable. I got 27% off list on my Arctic Fox when the RV market wasn't soft by calling almost every Arctic Fox dealer in the Western half of the country. Granted, my wife and I had to travel some 1400 miles to get it, but while the 5er was being built, we planned a two week vacation out of it, which we enjoyed very much in the states of Washington. Oregon (visited my brother), Northern California and the Sierra Nevadas.

I would be willing to bet that if you find a new but two or even three year old unit still sitting on a dealer's lot and if you are a knowledgeable buyer you could probably buy one at 30 to 35% off retail which is at or below invoice.

I bought my HitchHiker for invoice plus $2,000 which was about 27% off retail in early 2007 when the RV industry was still strong just by calling dealers. I ended up buying it from a dealer very near the factory which also saved transportation costs. Of course I had to travel to Kansas to get it but that's the reason travel trailers have wheels under them . . . they are movable.
