Fifth wheel conversion for Draw-Tite?

Hauled a 21' UPS Sprinter Van/Phoinex to Showlow

Hello to everyone. New to the forum, would just like to introduce myself and ask a question. We have a Dodge 3500, quad, swb, 4x4, ctd, 4:10. We tow a 37ft. Montego Bay. Went on our maiden voyage last week and the DW complained of the roughness of the ride. We have the 5th Airborne hitch and the Moryde suspension on the 5er. One thing we notice was chucking. I have talked with Sonny at 5th Airborne, I still need to make some adjustments. Now I was wondering if a better seat could be had for my truck. Has anyone upgraded their seats to a better quality one. Our's has the standard cloth. Thanks for the help in advance, John

Welcome to TDR Johnny. First thing, show your signature. What year is your truck? One possible problem you may be having is that a short bed truck may not be the best truck for a 37' 5th wheel. In fact I would highly recommend a Dually for that size 5er.

The seats on my 3500, DRW, Laramie are leather and are great. The seats on my previous 95 3500 DRW, Laramie were cloth and even better. You might try cushions for the front seats.

Johnny

I'm considering getting a fifth airborne to address a chucking problem with my rig... let me know if the adjustments work to help on your rig.

Thanks, George

If you could modify the cabin floorboard, essentially creating a sump for the seats, I'd love to put a OTR truck type seat like a Bostrom in with an air suspension, provided there was room left-to-right.

my seats

Johnnycrab, there is an option you can do if you want to spend some time doing it. You can buy a set af older seats out of an older dodge( 99 to 02) and modify them like I did to fit in my truck. They look pretty good, but they are a little tight where the seatbelt housing is. I used to have a pinched nerve all the time until I went to the chiropractor and got fixed and decided to replace my seats.

I have been helping my brother with a "chucking" problem. he has a 2500 ford short bed towing around a 30' 5er. After reading some other forums (RV related) our next test is going to be switch out his Reese Slider hitch with my Reese fixed hitch. there have been several reports that the sliders have some "fore and aft" movement which can cause this chucking. I have ridden in his when it was doing this, I was in the rear seat and reached out through the sliding window, yes I could feel the hitch moving fore and aft. But when you feel the hitch unloaded you can't feel that much play. He also was ready to run out and buy an air hitch, but first we need to try the fixed hitch. When I tow his 5er with my long bed and fixed hitch you don't feel the chucking. If you do get to try a fixed hitch just remember your not using a slider while backing up :{

seats

I installed air ride bostrum seats when I first got the truck. used a couple of the original mounting holes, drilled two to fit . I now have one for the pasenger side. wife complained. no modifications necessary. they make a low profile seat. Stormy
