Someone tell me what type of exhaust outlet flange this HX40-16 has? It doesn't look flat like the H1C. Need to get a downpipe made up. Thanks.

Bill,

This is what I have always seen in the industry. Our little three incher is the only place I have seen ( or noticed) the flat flange.

Now, where to purchase said flange to weld onto your new DP, right?? Did you check that pic of the adapter in the PDR web site yet?

GL

I've seen the adaptor. Isn't it like a step down, not a full 4" across. I want a true 4" downpipe for this hx40. I got a price quoted for one. . . ouch. . Might just have to send that mo out to Braden and use the flange from it, and try to find someone locally to weld it for me. Wish I had a welder and knew how!. . or a friend that did :( .

Bill, I went to check my downpipe and the flange is completely flat and if you look real close you can see it was sealed to a flat surface..... hope that helps! My downpipe was bought for an HX40 and they never asked me if it was flat or beveled, but it worked!

I'd say a little touch with a grinder would make that SOB flat! :-laf

Yup, you can get a 'true' 4" DP like the one I'm using from the same place I got most of my stuff... ;)

Also... if some of this stuff aint confusing enough... there are two types or mating flanges... I think... . one is... . wait for it... ... ... ... ... ... ... a full marmon and the other... . yup, you got it... . a half marmon... . and NO I'm talking church affiliations here... ;) ;) :D

Finally, I think the adapter your referring to is the one we use to adapt the outlet of an HX35 to a 4" HX40 downpipe. That one is tapered for obvious reasons... :D:D

pb... .

seems to me bill, that if you came across a cheap flat flange, the clamp would seat it pretty good. don't know if ones easier to find or not.

Dave you got me. . I'm confused on this. PB, whats full and half marmon mean?

I'm kinda leaning to the grinder approach and make it flat. . not sure though. .

Ok so I was at Scheid's the other day and they had a flat flanged hx40 downpipe for a 2nd gen. We clamped it to this exhaust housing and it looked good, we all felt it would seal fine. Still though, can't use the 2nd gen style dp, gotta custom build it. Called that airflo online place and they're out of stock on the $61 machined 6CT flange. Can't get just one, gotta order in bulk. So no luck there. Locally the exhaust part shops all throw their hands up to this:mad:. Anyone got a Nelson catalog that shows the part number for the machine flange for a 6CT?

There is no weld on flange in MY Nelson cataloge. It does list V Bands. But you wouldn't want to look at the listings as there is seven V band styles for the 4" pipe alone!!!!!

Bill, I think you'd best be PM-ing ANYONE that has an HX 40 to locate a flange. There are guys who have 'em but apparently do not read this thread.

I'll phone the local custom exhaust shop (who build custom 4" pipe) and ask about what he would buy/where/how much.

Come to think of it, he would simply build you a complete DP, if he didn't need the truck that is. Sorry, I don't have time right now. This winter perhaps.

The local Custom Exhaust Shop will have 'em, Bill. They need the turbo housing to match the flange. Didn't sound like a problem. Apparently they do cusom work for the OTR trucks as well as the diesel pick-up freaks... ..... of which you are a card carrying member.

There is a 93 W250 here in the shop now for an injection pump build that has this shop's custom work. They built the 4" right along side the transfer case like it was my Grandmother threading a needle.

Ok, a half marmon is a flat flange face and the full marmon is the half-round or bevelled face..... geezzzz... some of the stuff you gotta know ... eh... ;):D

pb..... :}-)

Thanks Bob. I think I'm gonna take BWillard up on his 2nd gen 40 dp. Then do the cut on weld job on it. I'm gonna need all the air I can get, I got a KTA Special head and rotor on the way. . soon enough Brian...
