Long story shortened, My buddies 98. 5 had the vp44 go south. Ordered a new one put it in, hooked the edge comp back up, made it ten minutes down the road after getting it running, truck was warmed up, stomped on it in third gear, truck falls on its face and dies wont start. Get it back to shop, and thought it might of got air in lines from not having much fuel in the tank. Bleed lines for 10 minutes, had fuel to four lines no fire and also a check engine light. Called the builder of the pump, they say that the injecter angle timing sensor ( I think thats the name) is fried send the pump back and they will put another one in it but i will have to pay for the sensor and labor. He said that the version 8. 0 edge comp has been frying these sensors pretty often. Not all do it, some do it right away, some take time, some dont do it at all, but when it fries that sensor, the computer pretty much says no go with anything and truck wont run at all. He said he was 90% sure that is what happened, so we sent the pump back this morning, and will know for sure on monday or tuesday if that is what happened.

I thought this was good info for people to know beings many of us run a comp box. At this point, I am not going to say who made the pump because it has nothing to do with why it failed. Will post more info when i figure more out, but this is very depressing to me. For FYI the box was manufactured jan. 2005 and bought in july 05 and it is a drag comp, but i dont think that has anything to do with version 8. 0. If anyone else has info on this, or questions, please post!!!! Good luck!!

DISCLAIMER----- Not saying that this is a FOR SURE thing, the guy is not a vendor, but actually REBUILDS these pumps, not just sells them from someone else, so i would say they know what they are talking about... ... ...

The stock pump that went bad had nothing to do with the edge either, it was on for about exactly six months; but when we got gauges on it it read 4 pounds at idle, so i knew it was on it way out from that. We put a FASS on it right away, but that only lasted for about 3 months until an 0251 and then an 0216 about three weeks after the 0251.

I have one too

I just checked mine and I also have the 8. 0 version of a drag comp. I think I've had it for about 9 months now on an original vp44 with 110,000 miles and counting... . knock on wood!

I had an Edge Comp version 8. 0 for about 1 month. The decrease power button quit working, and I contacted Edge. They asked what the version it was and the date it was manufactured. After I gave them that info, they said to send it in and they would replace it for free.

So should i try and hook it up again?? I am really scared about all this now, and the kid really needs his truck, as he needs to get to wyomoing asap..... These darn pumps are expensive and i hate to fry another one as I dont think anyone is going to pay for it but us... ... ... . Any advice???

If it where mine and I wanted to buy a little insurance I would not tap the pump wire until he is back from Wyoming, just run it like a EZ until then.
