About 8 months ago, we terminated our service with Internet America, a provider of wireless internet access in the Houston, TX area. Internet America is the company that bought out our original internet provider, whom we had service with for a little over a year prior to the buyout. Quality of service degraded to the point of almost being unusable, they couldn't do anything to fix it, so we cancelled our service.
Months go by, I didn't hear anything from them - not a phone call or any correspondence in the mail. Until the day they left a message on my voice mail about 'equipment recovery'. I called them and found out that they wanted my antenna and radio (Why didn't they tell me this when I originally cancelled?). I told them I would get back to them within a week, once I found my original receipt from when I started service (with the original company), to confirm whether the fees I paid at installation were for purchase of the equipment or not.
I couldn't find the paperwork, so I attempted to call them to have them come out and get the radio/antenna - I certainly didn't need it anymore. Except when I called (on break, lunch, etc. ) I was placed on hold forever, and had to hang up and go back to work. This went on for several days.
Tonight, while reconciling my bank account, there is a charge on my visa check card for $270. From Internet America.
Tomorrow, I'll try calling, from work, when they open. If I'm put on hold forever again, my next call will be to the bank!
How can they charge my card 8 months after I terminated service? I had better have my $270 back by the end of the day tomorrow #@$%!
Sorry guys, had to vent somewhere...
