Jsut a thought

What about along the bottom of the window like my Ford 4x4 has is a metal part that goes out to the edge of the outer door skin where the window seal is. It comes up and is wide enough to not alow anything to go down along the window to snag a door lock release. I dont know how the Dodge is on the bottom edge of the window, but maybe could epoxy a runner there. Funny Dodge didnt think of that type of anti theft part like Ford did. Ford, out with old, Dodge, in with new!

Well, this is one thing that I have never had a problem with. I agree with the big doggie protection, but I don't think there would be a dry place left in my truck with Ivan occupying it. At 185lbs, man can he generate drool ( bull Mastif ). I generally leave my truck running when I make quick stops, but I carry a spare set of keys in my pants pocket and just lock the truck when I exit, has worked great. No more locking myself out by forgetting the keys in the ignition. I live in a small town but work in a major city, never lock it at home and always lock it at work. When I am at home I end up leaving the keys in it half the time. Course at home, everyone knows me and choose not to anger me. At 6'4" and a built 260, I can take care of myself and am an expert marksman. Course the NRA Life member sticker in the window could deter them or the bumper sticker that say that no "problem is too small for high explosives". :)

Morph.

Around certain towns here on LI (and I've heard this about traveling through the US via major interstates and rest-stops too), having an NRA sticker will GET your truck/car broken into to see of there are any firearms stashed.

What a world...

Bad News for Ford drivers

Just a couple of days ago I had to use a slim jim to open up not only a new F-250 but also it's little brother the F-150. Both vehicles were in my shop and the keys were in the ignition. It took only a couple of minutes to open the 250, and less than 30seconds to get the 150 open. Bar next to window huh? dosn't do so good a job and Dodge probably realized this and decided not to spend the money on a useless idea. Remember, LOCKS KEEP ONLY HONEST PEOPLE OUT, the criminal population will always get their way. Unfortunately. :(

Mopar EVS II

I just installed this Mopar system - works well - install went pretty well (I always take 3 times as long as anyone else) - But I like the fact that I know where everything is and why. The system comes with a great harness -plug and play basically. Only 2 wires to vampire and solder (courtesy light by driver left foot and parking light at switch).

The only hitches I had were

-Identifying the courtesy light wire - on my '01 it's the yellow. The instructions say YL but they confuse it with 'the #8 socket' in connector - and isn't it just Y? L is Blue I thought. The connector body is numbered on back but man are they small.

-Picking a location for the indicator light. - I put mine right behind (closer to driver) from the hazard button on the column.

-Picking a location for the hidden switch that the system incorporates.

-The EVS harness had a bullet terminal that was not fully inserted into connector body. - Found it the next day. CHECK HARNESS

- I installed the siren too close to the fender well and had to move it somewhere less accessible - right above the factory horns behind the right headlight worked good - and it's impossible to yank the wires from underneath. - Hell you'd have a hard time getting to the wires looking at it from the top with the hood open.

- Who knows if it will work - it was cheap insurance against the 'casual' thief

When I found out I was going to do a job in AZ I installed a starter kill on my truck. The Coyote's got three of my buddies trucks before I got there. All were found running in the desert with a lot of damage to them. They were running people from the boarder. The starter kill worked like a champ. You have to have the door open, know where it is and have it engage the while you are turning the key. It is not a toggle switch you can just have on it has to be activly engaged while turning. The door has to be open otherwise your hand will end up in the map pocket. The button looks like a self tapping screw head. I worked in AZ 8 months. Took my truck to the car was every week. Always told them to leave it running, even wrote it in spanish and posted on steering wheel. They never listened and then the fun began. One time I watched them for 15 minutes before I went to assit them with starting the truck. There were four people climbing all over it, under the dash trying to figure out how to start it. I never did show them in case one of them moonlighted.

jraker, I like your idea of the kill button. Where did you get the screw head looking button? Also, I noticed from your signature that you have stainless steel bed rail covers. I had my tail gate cover (SS) messed up. Could you also tell me where (or what company) puts them out? Thanks

Bart, I will get back to you this evening on the information on the SS Tailgate cap. I will also post some pictures of the kill button. I bought the switch from Car Toys in Washington State. My buddy had it done on his truck so I went to the same place and bought the switch. It wasn't my intention to have to have the door open to reach it when I installed it. Just happened to work out that way. It took several months to get used to it, now it is habbit when starting the truck. Haven't had one person be able to start the truck with the key without first showing them how to do it.

Talk about breaking into trucks, before my Ram I had a maxi-van. I discovered by accident that the key also opened the wife's mommy wagon. One day at the 7-11 a younger couple was locked out of their dodge van and quite upset. I walked over and just opened it for them with my key! That put them in shock!

I had a good one about 4 years ago.

After I parked my Ram, and walked to the deli entrance, I clicked the keyfob to lock the doors and set the alarm (aftermarket system). I got the beeps from my system and heard another set of yelps... from a car a few cars away. I hit my fob again, my system un-armed. . nothing from the car. . until I did it yet again to lock my truck again.

Every other transmission from my keyfob worked the other alarm... very odd. Never happened again since.
