Mine were measured at around 8. 75"... I had a shop measure them to confirm my thoughts that the 315s would fit.

But that was over two years ago...

changed

wow must have changed after '04. Cool i wish mine had been that wide, i could have saved some money on new wheels.

When i bought my 285's i was told by two shops that this was the most i could go with my stock rimm. They said that they could get the bigger tire on but will not wear evenly? I listened to them because it was two different shops telling me the same thing. Are they right? I don't think i even want to know.

A general rule to follow use to be. . is the rim width should be the same as the actual measured tread width however it is very common to use a smaller rim.

I have 8. 5" wide wheels with a tread width of 10" that works well. I will be moving to an 8" wheel with those same tires and when worn out will go to a 285.

My tire guy agrees + I was in the tire bus myself years ago and installed plenty of 33x12. 50's on 8" wheels but I will admidt those were 15's

Anybody that had these size tires notice a backend "seasway". I noticed in right away after they were installed today. I had also noticed it a little bit with the TOYO Open Country AT's 285/75/17, but now notice it a great deal more! I know the sidewall is a bit larger, but with an E-rated tire, I did not expect it. I guess that anytime you go bigger than stock size, your just going to have to install a rear stabilizer bar.
