04.5 Exhaust Question

I am looking at purchasing a tire that better suits me at the pulling track.

I am thinking a 285 70 R17.

The BFG all-terrain looks a little weak.

I think there is an all terrain KO that would better suit me.

This tire only comes in a D load rating. Is this ok?

Anyone have suggestions on tires that will fit the stock 17" rim?

I have BFG KO 315/70/17s load range D on mine, they seem pretty good, maybe not quite as solid side to side as the 265/70/17s load range E that came on it but I do not tow anything over 6K lbs so they are fine for me. Anything from 265/70/17 to 315/70/17 should fit on a 4X4 without any problem, although a couple people have reported the 315s rub slightly with the stock wheels. You could get a set of H2 take off wheels and tires, they are cheap, I got my set from the local Hummer dealer for $400. The rims are 8. 5" wide and they do not rub, they have to be modified slightly to fit over the hub, if you do a search you should be able to find tons of info on it.

They are wider than the Dodge rims and are one of the few rims that have the correct offset for the Dodge. I got them with the tires already mounted, I also like the way they look, my truck came with grey steel wheels.

I was thinking of getting the 285/70/17 mud terrains. I was thinking of pulling at scheids this year also. Is this tire to aggressive? Is there such a thing? Lee.

I'm looking for a set of 285 K/O as well. Where is the best place to get them. I would also consider a good used set at this point.

XCX, how much do you want for the 315's?

Check with your local Hummer dealers, while you may not like the wheels I got the set of 4 wheels and tires brand new for $400, still had the nubs on the tires. If anyone is in the northeast, it is www.norwoodhummer.com You could just use the tires and probably get $150 for the Hummer wheels.

Hawkeye, The best price I have found is Tire Rack. Like $186 the last time I checked. The closest place to ship them to me was out of tires so to get them from down south they wanted over $100 for shipping. I figured I can wait.

check your local guy also

The last set of tires I bought, Bridgestone REVO's, I sourced locally. Tire Rack, etires and the rest were pretty high on shipping where the local Bridgestone guy just ordered them to come on the weekly truck. I paid less than the "e-price" and balancing was free. It might be worth a try to source your local tire shop.

The all terrrain Ko tread pattern is an excellent tire. I dont have them on my dodge, but still have them on a ford I own. They are the best tire i have seen on snow, and also get good traction on a dry hard packed surface. I id rate them as a best all around tire. I have 40 k on them and they still are at at 50 % tread. As far as pulling i think theyd do good aired down to about 15 to 20 psi if you could keep them on the rim?? I guess its someting youd have to experiment with. Justin does your rig have the Michelins?

I have run the KO's for many years and the 315 70R 17 that I have on my truck now are the only ones I have ever had problems with. Discount Tire has already replaced two of them because they could not get them to road force balance. I think the three remaining ones are bad also. If I hit a bump they start bouncing and won't stop till you slow Way down. Already replaced the shocks twice... . brand new rancho 9000X set on about 4. Need to find a fix for that... its just too dangerous to drive fast.

I run 33x12. 5 x16. 5 BFG all terrains on my 95 2500, without a dout they are the best tire I have ever used. I have 83k on the set I run now, they are about ready to be replaced. my 2 cents worth

Are you sure about that? The pics I've seen with Hummer wheels on Rams they set out at least an inch or two beyond the fender like most aftermarket wheels do because there isn't enough backspace. Correct offset is +40mm and backspace is 6. 25" on a 8. 5" wide wheel.

Maybe half an inch, it's dark here just went outside and snapped a picture, I measured when put the rims on and the BS is right around 6". They throw almost nothing on the side of the truck.

Here is another shot showing both front and rear, when I am refering to how much the tires stick out I am measureing at the top of the wheel.
