Bfg Lt285/70r17e Ta/ko?

After 42,000 miles (about 1/2 pulling a 5th-wheel) my OEM BFG Rugged Trail tires need replacing. From a looks standpoint, I would like to get a slightly larger tire. Because I do pull a 5th-wheel I definitely want at least a "E" rated tire. Because we often take our truck on local desert "jeep trails" I would like a tire that is somewhat "all-terrain". Yesterday, a salesman at BigO tires said that in about a month they are to receive their first shipment of a new tire from BFG. He said it would be an "E" rated LT285/70R17 TA/KO. I had a 16 in. version of that tire on a previous truck and liked it very much. I hope the salesman gave me good info, because it sounds good to me. What do you folks think?

Also, do you know if the 285 tire would fit in the spare tire storage area?

I would be interested in that tire also. I hope your guy was right. I had TA/KOs on my old Bronco and they were great off-road.



I have heard in other threads that a 315 tire will squeeze into the spare location, but don't know myself.

My first 3rd gen was a 4x4 and I ran 315's and the 315 fit fine in the spare location.

I hope they run the 285's E rated BUT also the 265's... that's the tire I want (2wd)

I believe the BFG LT285/75R17D is what comes stock on the Power Wagon so it should fit in the spare tire storage area.

I haven't seen an E range version of that tire. The good news is that the 285 D range tire has a very similar load capacity to the 265 E range tires that came on the truck. You can safely carry the same loads that you always have. The D is a 65 psi tire vs the E's 80 psi but I have put a ton of miles on these tires heavily loaded and never had a problem. I ran a set bald on the '03 QC work truck pulling a heavy gooseneck. I ran them on my '05 since it was new and installed a set on my '06 the day I drove it home. I really think that even if you can't get them in an E range that the D is plenty. Snow traction is excellent, off road durability is first rate. Price is stiff but whats new.
