Leveling kit and tires/wheels on order. Currently going with Rancho 6446 leveling kit (longer upper/lower links-- 2. 5" lift), 16x10 mickey thompson classic II wheels and 305/70R16 BFG Mud Terrains.

On the option block are the ProComp Xterrains instead... My interests are:

1) appearance (dont want the bulgy sidewall look)

2) Wet/Snow handling

3) longevity

From what I've heard, the BFG M/T dont do that great in the Snow, any feedback from the TDR folks on:

a) snow/wet habits of the two tires ??

b) problems going with the ProComp Xterrains ??

Thx,

Ralph-

Those tires should fit fine with the leveling kit. The BFG's don't look as radical as the Procomps but they look pretty stout. I would recommend BFG since you dont want a huge sidewall. The BFG's will last much longer since they are a much better product. ProComps are junk, they are made by and for Four Wheel Parts (Transamerica inc. ) They wear out and the tires cup really nicely. They also are louder than a BFG tire... .

BFG all the way! Oo.

I would also have to go with the BFG's as no one i have talked to cares for the Pro Comps. I personally run MTR's and love them. They are excelent in the snow and get good tread life for being a mud and rock tire.

I personally do not know anyone that has run the Pro Comp brand of tires, so I'm not much help there. I do have alot of personal experience with the BFG MT's, I run them on both my Dodge and Ford. BGF makes one of the best long wearing mud tires, it is relatively quiet on the road and great in the mud and snow. The tire has a very firm sidewall and the rubber compound is also very hard, both make for stiff but long lasting tread. Another tire you might want to take a look at is the Trxus M/T, they are both different and very aggressive. I have a set that I run on the Dodge for the summer, Matter of fact I just took them off, yesterday and put the BF G's back on. The Trxus tires are softer, both in the sidewalls and tread rubber. This makes them ride a little smoother then the BF G's, but not so much that they have a bad wear rate. My which have been on the truck since March, look very Good. No real wear to see, or measure and they look very even without any tread or sidewall malformities. I have not run the Trxus tires in the snow, but I am sure they would eat it up, they performed well in the sand. The one thing the Trxus tires will do that the BF G's can not, is draw attention to your rig. Everyone seems to look at them, whether they like them or not who knows, but they do look. The tread is aggressive and it runs over the lip onto the sidewall, this looks very aggressive.

Gotta disagree

ProComps are junk, they are made by and for Four Wheel Parts (Transamerica inc. ) They wear out and the tires cup really nicely. They also are louder than a BFG tire... .

Can't speak for the ProComp Xs but for A/Ts I say no way. My ProComp A/Ts are wearing very slowly and have kept their balance perfectly. They are very, very quiet.

I have 35" TruxXs M/T's for my summer tire and I honestly haven't been happy with them. The tires I received were nearly impossible to balance and when I confronted my supplier, they did nothing other than say, "Yeah, we see that a lot with Interco. " I tried centramatics (sp?), that powder balance stuff, match balancing, etc. They never totaly smoothed out and they cupped. I have had excelent luck with BFG's on my previous rig's (and several friends for that matter) but I never owned a truck this heavy before so I went with a 10-ply tire... . next spring I think I will be tire shopping again.

I like the BFG's. However, I feel that the Goodyear MT/R is a better all-around tire. Also, the toyo mt sounds promising. I think the MT/R's are alittle quiter. however, the BFG is a great choice, and I'd take the BFG's over the X-Terrain's any day.

Personally, I wouldn't use either. I've heard about the Procomps and have had BFG Mud Terrains, if you are worried about wet traction then stay away from the BFG's, they slid around on slick pavement like it was ice! Plus, the BFG's should be called Sand Terrains since that is all they perform good in, mud caused them to slick up. I am running Bridgestone Dueler Revo's, the only complaint I have so far is they do tend to pick up gravel, but they are like velcro in the rain! I haven't done any serious mudding, trucks 2 wheel drive, but the mud I have been in didn't slow them down at all. The tread looks cool also. I did a lot of research before I purchased and the Revo's are the highest rated tire on the market in all categories.

the pro comps aren't made by 4wp... the xt's are a good tire, i run them on my jeep. much quieter and smoother then other mt's... i've been considering them for my truck.

Oh No No

Yes, ProComp is OWNED by TRANSAMERICA. TRANSAMERICA owns 4 Wheel Parts... Thus, the reason when you call 4 wheel parts they try to shove Procomps down your throat, buy 1 get 3 free speical they like running. Expect the first tire costs like 800 dollars, Trickery at it's finest lol

As for procomps, I had a set of A/T's on my Jeep and they cupped bad, wore out easy... . My friends Fake Hemi Ram has procomp muds and they did the same thing... BFG's are superior to them in quality. .

Also, how in the world are BFG's louder than an X terrain tire?? That is physically impossible. Thats like saying a AT is louder than an MT

He's right, procomp and 4wp is owned by trans america.

My BFG's were pretty darn quiet, not as quiet as the MT/R's are, but close. The X-terrains I've heard are noisy. Not quite like my boggers or swampers, but they remind me of the dick Cepek m/t's in the noise category.

My tire choice's for all around driving (sand, rock, mud, street) are:

#1 MT/R

#2 Toyo M/T

#3 BFG M/T

#4 surprisingly, Baja Radial MTX.

Havent tried interco trxus, or others.

I hate, absolutley hate, bfg all terrains.

My favorite tires have been TSL Boggers, but not for the street!!!

hhhmmm...lets see here...

I personally have had the opportunity to run every tire mentioned in this thread, other than the REVO's.

I can tell you that I will never own another set of BFG AT's. One of the worst wearing tires I have ever owned. I have had several sets and each time I gave them another chance they failed me miserably. I also thought they weren't all that great in the snow.

Now one of my favorite tires is the BFG Mud Terrain. I have had fantastic luck and wear with them. The only thing they don't like is ice. Stay away from ice on the MT's and they are a fantastic tire.

The Goodyear MTR's are a fantastic tire but seem to be only good for about 30K on our heavy trucks.

I have also had three sets of Pro Comp Tires, which from what I have been told are made by Cooper. The first set of Pro Comp's I had were the AT's. They did OK considering I did not rotate them once. They cupped at about 30K miles, but that was my own fault. Traction was very good with these tires wet or dry, ice or snow.

The second set I had and personally my favorite tire are the Pro Comp XTerrains. They had 45K on them before I pulled them off. The back two still had a 1/4" of tread left and the front set were close to that but were slightly cupped. Once again only one rotation in 45K miles.

Just put a new set of Xterrains on a couple of months ago... . love them.

I will continue to run these until something better IMHO comes along.

Oh... and by the way I know for a fact that the Xterrains are no louder than the BFG MT.

To each his own. I research EVERYTHING before I buy and overall the feedback I got on the Xterrains was fantastic.
