I've seen the prices for BFG's at www.tirerack.com and I have priced ProComp's. From what I have found the BFG's seem to be cheaper. But with price aside do you guys have preferance on either based on performance and wear. This 03' CTD is the first 4x4 I've owned and have never ran the bigger tires before. Just don't know if the is just a personal preferance or if there is actually difference in quality. Thanks in advance for any help.

P. S if the there is a much better tire then either of these brands I'm all ears.

If it were me I would go with the BF Goodrich. I've never had either tire but I've done a fair amount of difficult off roading and know the BFGs one of the the toughest out there. Several of my friends use MFG M/Ts with good results. The BFG A/T also seems to have excellent snow and wet traction from what I've read. Tire rack has some good owners reports you can read. When I'm ready for tires I will almost certainly go with BFG A/Ts in a 285/70/17. Had I ordered 4. 10 gears I would do the 315/70/17s. The only other tire I'm considering is a goodyear wrangler MT/R but since the truck will never leave pavement they're not worth it.

Pro comp is kind of a question mark in my mind. I don't yet consider them a reputable, well trusted tire name. I've seen another offroader use them on some 4+ trails in Moab and wasn't too impressed.

I used the ProComp's AT 305/70 on my F250 and had great luck with them I put 40K on them and still had great tread left. They drove good on road and were very good on wet road too. I would use them again with out 2nd thought. I had no flats with them before that I had 6 flats with the firestone on the same roads.

I have BFG AT 245/75/16s on mine. I stayed with the stock size tire the second time around. I have 50k on the rear ones and I am almost to the tread wear indicator bar. With 20k on the front pair they are about half as worn. I run 60-50 psi all the time unless I go to the beach.

I am considering the MT in a 235/85 this time but I also do not expect the same longevity this time. A narrower tire and softer compound will not last as long as what I have now.

ProComps from 4 Wheel Parts in Ca are blem tires, it even says so in their ads.

I am still a BFG tire buyer for the OEM sized tires.

I just mounted a set of BFG AT/KO 285's on my truck. Traded in all five of my old tires for them at the local tire shop. $500 difference out the door with lifetime balancing and rotation. I don't have to deal with either storing the LTX's or trying to sell a 17" tire. I'm REAL HAPPY with the BFG's so far (thanks TDR members for recommending them!).

Why did I go with the 285's? Garage door clearance, and handling, a taller tire generally loses a little handling. Besides, there is only a ½" width difference between the 285s and the 315s and the 285s have white lettering in the sides and the 315s do not.

On my '01 Dodge CTD I had some Goodyear 285 MTRs' and really liked them, except for the noise and lost a bit of the handling. If you want traction, the MTRs are hard to beat. The MTRs also look BY FAR look the best, but the BFGs look great also. I really liked the MTR's a lot, but settled on the BFG's after reading the posts on the tirerack.com and I expect them to last longer (unless I have the truck loading down a lot), no speedo re-cal (285s) and they are a bit quieter.

Want something that looks big, mean, and has excellent snow and mud traction with some noise and decent highway (75 mph) handling for a big gnarly tire? Look at the MTRs 305's with the white lettering! But IMHO the BFGs look pretty good too, just a notch less testosterone.

ALSO, most excellent article on tires on this TDR web site at https://www.turbodieselregister.com/thought_provoking_discussions.htm

I've got BFG AT 315/70R17's on my Ram, and my wife has Procomp MT 31x10. 5R15's on her Jeep TJ. . They are both excellent quality tires. Previously she had the same size BFG MT's, drove those till they were worn out. No complaints there either.

Check out the Bridgestone AT REVOs...

wscott-

I realize that the Bridgestone Dueler AT REVOs aren't on your list, but you should check out the reviews on them at tirerack.com. Although it is still a relatively new tire, the customer ratings are blowing away the BFG AT KOs. I have had both tires and the REVO provides better traction in all conditons IMO and runs quieter as well. The REVOs have a 50,000 mile treadwear warranty while the BFGs do not have a treadwear warranty at all. So far, the REVOs are the best tire I've ever had. I think 285/75/16 is the biggest REVO available though. Take a look at the ratings and the reviews for both...
