I am thinking about cutting a hole through the fire wall into the cowl vent to feed my bhaf. Has anyone tried this? I know the Scotty system works this way.

Mine has the hole. I had originally tied the stock filter housing into the cowl so when I started using a BHAF the hole was already there. I sometimes flip the insulation over the hole to quiten things down a bit and to tell the truth, I can't tell any difference.

I ran a stainless housing for a while on my BHAF (fully enclosed) that tied into the cowl and the factory fresh air duct, again, not a earthshattering amount of difference.

i also did the hole with bhaf and mhaf on two different 2nd gens. the one w/ mhaf had fully enclosed housing with opening for fender and cowl air. the bhaf equipped rig had heatshield and cowl hole. i expect there was a slight lowering of egt with the hole but it was hard to measure the difference. i'd do it again to gain any egt relief however slight it may be,,,,,but then again i am one who enjoys the extra turbo noise. :)

I've ran this housing for the past 3 years. It does keep the underhood air away from the filter, and I did insulate the turbo side of the housing but I'm running enough fuel with a basically stock exhaust system that egts are an issue with or without the housing.

Main problem in making this a marketable housing is the lack of a nice boot to make the transition from the housing to the cowl opening. The challange is the cowl hole is offset quite a bit from the body of the stainless steel housing.

I think many of us fall for the notion that underhood, down-the-road underhood temps are WAY high, when in fact, several tests have shown that typical underhood temps in freeway scenarios is actually only about 10 degrees warmer than ambient. That's hardly enough to make me want to start cutting big holes in my firewall or hood... ;) :-laf :-laf

Guys,

I like the idea that has been shown. :eek:

What if you put a hood opening [ scoop or reverse opening ] on the hood for cooler air ?? :-{}

I have been kicking the idea around. ;)
