I installed my "Mallory" heat shield today. Since it's made out of aluminum(sp?) it conducts heat pretty well so I made a simple mod.

Walmart had a clearance on those windshield sun/heat reflector that you need to survive the summer here in TX. Cut two panels to match the shield and "Liquidnailed" them on either side of the shield(turbo/filter). The silver foil should reflect some heat and the buble wrap between the two layers should provide some insulation.

I let you guys know how my 4. 99$ experiment holds up and if it works.

It works

Well it works like a charm. Turbo side gets hot to the touch, filter side stays cool. No hotter than the engine compartment, filter stays nice and cool.

This was after a 15 mile run with my lead foot, highway most of the time 70 to 90 mph and last 2 miles dirt road about 40.

Would recommend, 4. 99$ can''t loose.

Big thanks to Brian Mallory for coming up with the shield/cradle, exactly what I needed.

huh?

Glenn, I'm having trouble picturing what you're saying. What sort of "shield" did you attach the sunshield material to? I assume the sunshield you are talking about is the stiffer, accordian-folding style stuff. Did you install this shield using the stock airbox studs? What did you make the shield out of that you glued the sunshade material to?

Thanks, Vaughn

Good idea on that reflective insulation. When I made the shield I was was only hoping to block some of the air flow off the turbo exaust housing and maybe reflect some radiated heat. I have seen some . 250 insulatoin with sticky tape on one side and a shiny aluminum foil on the other, used on aircraft. If I could source it that would be the ticket! Thanks for the idea glad to see you like the shield/mount. Brian Mallory

sounds like a great idea!!!

should also work for my JRE heat shield... looks like i'm headed to Wally-World tomorrow!!!

scroll back a bit...

pseward... scroll back a couple of posts there's a link to a pic.

the BHAF is the Big, Honkin' Air Filter. do a search for it. its a

very large air filter for a cummins (marine engine i think). moves big air and keeps EGT'S down.
