2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission BHAF Holy shwoooosh..........

I got my BHAF from fleetfilter.com for $29. 00 and change.

Has anyone installed an enclosed BHAF to cut down on noise? I was thinking of one from a tractor or big truck that will fit where the air box is now but flow more air than stock or stock air box with a drop in.



I have an AFE Magnum force and on long trips with the trailer in tow it's just too noisey.

When I installed my NAPA BHAF it didn't need the pipe. It stayed on well, but last time I took it off to knock off some of the dust, I ran some sandpaper around it to rough it up. The intake hose stays even better now.

NAPA dosent have the cover for that do they? I think it would be good to keep the big stuff out, and mabey prolong the filters life.

Are you guys using some kind of clamp to hold the BHAF in place or is do you just have it laying there?



The outerwears is a great idea! Especially if it repels water.



I was thinking... After I build and bolt on the heat shield... I should fabricate or modify a clamp to hold the BHAF down.



Does anyone make a cheap clamp this large that I could just drill a hole through and bolt to the air box studs? Or is it easier and cheaper to just fabricate one? Or is it even really necsessary?





I had a guy in a new Ford Powerstroke flag me down at a red light (in town). He asked me what I had done to the truck..... He said, he really liked the way it sounded!! LOL..... :-laf



I have to admit it sounds pretty damn awesome. The wife hates it!! Imagine that... ... .

See my readers rigs pics for a clamp. I covered the three bolts that held the stock box in with rubber stoppers, used some strap metal on the bottom, then a big hose clamp across the top, one side rivet to each side of the strap metal. Works pretty good. If the ones in there aren't good enough, let me know and I'll post some better ones.

What keeps the bolts, stoppers clamps, etc attached to the element from rubbing and tearing the paper? Is the metal screen enough?

So far, there are no holes in the mesh around the filter. I don't clamp it super tight, just enough to keep it snug. If I was really feeling creative, I'd probably put rubber or duct tape around the hose clamp part. :-laf

FWIW:

When I bought my 96 it had a K&N drop-in (want one? pm me). Didn't like what I read or the oily residue all over the compressor wheel so I upgraded to BHAF from Napa. Used the rubber feet off the OE box. The wire mesh seems to be just fine for protection. No heat shield or 'rain coat' and I live w/ rain 9 months a year. Seems to be working great for me.



I have a pretty good ear (sound guy - pro audio in my spare time) and didn't notice too much additional noise. Still has S-ring and hear a bit of whine (a good whine) when she spools up. Not excessive, but wouldn't want a lot more.



Did feel a bit of improvement w/ better breathing on the front end, though. Still have stock exhaust and injectors... . Might feel a bigger delta w/ better fueling and better breathing on the back end.

i just drilled a hole in the center of a 1&1/2" pipe clamp(bracket) and drilled out the doles on the sides to fit a big zip tie. put the brackets on two studs from factory air box up side down. this cradles the bhaf and elevates it off the a/c line. looks like it will be good untill i get around to something else.

whats the P/N for the outerwears? I dabbed around an their site the otherday and found a bunch of ATV stuff and some for cars, nothin that big.

Pipe Mod...

I have had a cople PM's regarding my "Pipe Mod". I just wanted to set the record straight on what this actually does for me.



First of all the BHAF is awesome... ... But, my clamp kept coming loose after about 3 hrs. on the road. My solution was to stick a piece of 4" pipe in the filter. The pipe actually extends into the elbow, past the ribs and into the "smooth" part of the factory elbow. The pipe actually ends right after the last rib.



It is a VERY snug fit and the clamp has not come loose again. If it does come loose again... . It will have a long way to go before it comes off (impossible).
