I was wondering about getting a BHAF and build a steel box to put it in, this would also draw air from the fender like stock. Would this be worth my effort? I do have a wire welder so thin metal can be worked down with a bolt on lid to keep the heat out of it.

Any comments either way.

I've been thinking about the same thing. I use the MHAF, a little smaller. Wanted to use the firewall hole "scotty". Kinda like that volant setup. I have no welder but I have a little $$$ if you make one. LOL:D

There are lots of homebrew heatshields/airflow boxes out there. I've seen many posted on here.

The Scotty 2--on backorder-- gets its air from the stock fender hole and the 3. 5" hole (I think) cut in the firewall/cowl.

The firewall hole allows a LOT more turbo noise into the cab via the fresh air system. You will find several posts on here of folks trying to reduce that noise. It usually involves sound dams, padding, and insulation in the cowl area.

"Hush" mode S2 operation is running the fender hole only.

Search results "scotty and hole" + "titles only" option. http://turbodieselregister.com/foru...d=135141&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending

WadePatton,

Thanks for the links, I learned allot. I had no idea about the extra turbo whine. HMMMMMMMMM I may try one just for the fender hole at this point. It should be easy to add on to it,if needed.
