What are the pros and cons if any to inclose a BHAF in a air box or leaving it open on top of inner fender like some have done?

Need

Groups Opinions.

Thanks

My personal thought is that it should have a cover of some kind on it so water doesn't drip on it through the hood seam. That way it can be run year 'round and for those of us who wash our trucks we wouldn't have to do anything special. 'Course this is just an opinion from a guy who doesn't have one.

You can enclose it but the amount of work doesn't yield a whole lot and ends up with diminishing returns. If there is that much water flying around some will get sucked into the filter. If you enclose it too much you cut down the amount of fresh air the filter has access to.

IMO, a better investment would be an Outerwears water resistant prefilter. Watch the prefilter and when water quits beading on it replace it.

I don't like the idea cause it will cut down on the noise level :) and enclose the filter similar to the factory element, though not quite as restirctive I suppose (??). Besides, how the heck am I going to gain access to my jack, jack handle, lug wrench????? I could throw them in the back of the cab but I don't want them there.

MY . 02 guys. To each his own.

I don't like the idea of having a paper element filter in a position where it can get wet when it rains. If it's a washable style then it wouldn't bother me... .

I can still get to my jack... but it has never been out of it's mount ... probably ever, so why even consider that an issue?

Another 2 cents

Back in my younger days me and all my buddies would run the chrome breathers with open element filters on our cars and trucks. True they were gassers so they may not have sucked as much air, but they were daily drivers and I never did see one fail from being wet. They must be made of the same paper money is made of, pretty tuff. I don't have any covering over my BHAF. If I did a lot of river running then I may think seriously about it, but in normal operations I don't think I'll have a problem.

Just my . 02.
