Hello all

First timer question, wanted to ask how you have mounted your BHAF.

Did you scrap the stock air box, modify it, or what is the best way to maximize airflow. My 91 is stock but what to pep it up a bit, and starting with the air system seemed like the place to start. I found the thread with the part numbers for the BHAFs. Wanted advise on how to mount, open for suggestions before going wild and crazy!

Thanks for your comments

You'll want to remove the stock air box and connect the hose directly to the filter. I used a 4" conduit coupling for a better fit.

I also recommend some sort of heat shield. LarryB's worked great for me. Lots of people run an Outerwears prefilter also to make the filter water resistant. I used one and it seemed to work fine.

He has a '91 - might be a different mounting problem than later trucks...

The only difference that I can remember is that the stock box is up front on the passenger side instead of at the back of the engine bay. This would only mean that he might be able to get by without a heat shield.

Maybe some 1st Gen guys with the setup will chime in here.

Remove the black airbox and the metal mount underneath it. Silicone the two bolt holes that held the mount to the fenderwell. A prefilter is a must if you want your filter to last long. The factory intake hose slides over the neck of the BHAF. The intake hose filter end is 5", the filter neck is 4". It will work fine if you use something like HeavyHauler said such as the 4" conduit or what I've done, wrap some black electrical tape around the filter neck to make the fit a little tighter. The filter end of the hose has a 5"clamp. I would suggest buying a 4"clamp and you wouldn't have to worry about the filter coming off the hose or rigging something so that it doesn't. The 5" clamp bottoms out and you can't get a tight fit. Check my readers rigs for some pics of the bhaf setup.
