Did anyone who uses the BHAF in their truck have any problems with it being crushed by the hood. I am afraid mine isn't fitting right. Also, did you reuse the clamps that were on the intake hose, or did you put new clamps on? I could barely get the intake over the filter lip. I am afraid it will pop off, or I will crack the filter base. I used a piece of 3/4 plywood as a base over the studs because I didn't want to make it irreversible. I just hope I'm not hurting the filter by squeezing it between the hood and my base. The base doesn't stick up any higher than the original studs.

Thanks,

Travis

Travis, when I first installed a BHAF it hit my hood pad and caused a indention in the pad material. After a bit I decided I'd never go back to the stock filter box so using a big hammer I drove the three studs down and out of the fender. Lots of room now.

A couple of hints in case you don't already know; use armor flex or a old split water hose to cover the ac lines that the BHAF will touch, I always install a stiffner in the filter (2" long piece of 4" exhaust) just to insure that the filter will not deform. Many don't do this, but I've had lots of experience with these filters and IMHO, it's not worth the risk as I've seen a filter neck pucker inside the hose and allow unfiltered air into the engine.

I always just reuse the stock clamps.

Good luck, RJR

when i pulled of the stock air box i cut three pieces of 1/8 inch hose about 1/4 inch longer than the studs and slid them over them. then i hooked up the stock intake hose with the stock clamps. the air cleaner rest nicely on top of the three hoses. i use the napa # 2790 for a BHAF.

i installed the bhaf about 2-3 weeks ago on my 96. i hit those 3 stock air box mounting bolts through the fender with a 2 pound sledge. i live in a development and everyone here knows i love my truck and people driving by seeing me with a 2 pound sledge in the engine compartment didn't look very good. you have to hit those bolts down through the fender if you don't want the hood to hit the bhaf. if you don't want to do that you can buy the bhaf that is for the marine application which a quite a bit smaller and install that one. whatever you do make sure you get rid of that silencer ring. (the nicest upgrades are the free ones)

I have a BHAF mounted on a Mallory Mount under the hood of my 98 12v and it clears the hood just fine. It is mounted by the 3 factory studs on the bottom and doesn't hit anything. There is a shot showing under my hood in my readers rig area and you can see there is no marks on either the air filter,Outerwear prefilter or hood pad. The BHAF is held onto the Mallory Mount using a large tie strap found at most any heating and cooling store..... Andy
