BHAF, which one IS the BEST ??

I've been running the napa 6637, it has a wire mesh inside for safty reasons. I know the 2790, and the 19037 are more airflow, but do they have the screen inside?

I've never heard of one failing.........

By collapsing like that. Not to say it couldn't happen just that there's been no mention on the TDR. These filters are designed for much larger applications than what we use them for. Even with our modified set ups I doubt we are pulling the CFM's that some of the larger rigs that these are made for do.



Mines been in for over a year, through wet and dry weather and everytime I clean and inspect it there is no induication of it failing. I personally wouldn't worry about the mesh on the inside.

Why not just buy and AFE and be done with it, you could get the filter for say $50 and it is cleanable.

Jim, I've thought of it, but has'nt there been issues with the oiled filters, oil going into the turbo and such. I ran a K & N in my suburban for a while but always thought the fitration was questionable. I could see many little tiny holes in it.



Is the AFE any different of a design?

Late model Ford Power jokes had a problem with their turbos injesting the stock air filter so they put the wire mesh on to prevent injestion. That may be where the wire mesh started. Manufacturers probably decided it was safer to put the wire mseh in all Diesel air filters rather than risk a law suit.

There is a older man here in the town that has been a auto/truck parts man all his life. He is at least in his seventies and he has just about seen it all . I had him try to find me a BHAF with a screen inside and with all the research he did he could not find one . We talk'd about the screen inside and I told him I wanted a filter with a screen inside for safety reasons . He told me that he saw a Big Truck that a local city had that had a turbo on its diesel engine and that the filter had got wet some how (he didn't know how) and that it suck the filter inside the turbo and chew'd it up and spit the filter(inside screen and all) right inside the motor .

At least the intercooler on our CTDs will filter out the big pieces.

I'll bet in it's original application the bhafs were designed to have an inner safety filter.

The safety filters my tractors use appear to be made out of a cloth gauze with a heavy nylon screen for support, doesn't seem like water would effect them.

When I was at the Cummins distributor in SoCal for a class we went down to the test engine room. All of the engines from the 4b to 600hp engines had BHAF's on them.

my NAPA 2790 has now been on the truck for nearly 30k miles. no stiffener. no mount. sock for cover. no heat shield. NO PROBLEM. torrential downpours and carwashes don't seem to bother.
