BHAF FOR 03

i have a Donaldson B105006 on my 03 CTD HO. removed the air block (box). took a 45 degree mandrel bent pipe http://shop.airflowonline.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=AFSI&Category_Code=4D , whacked off about 3 inches on both sides and put a constant tension clamp on it. it angles down nicely where my old air box was. filter is rated at 650 cfm - searching for higher flow BHAF filter.

if i could get some form of cold air induction and eliminate sucking from the engine compartment then practically all of my intake woes would be resolved. also, i may need to get an outerwears skirt to make it water resistant - as water may blow in from the grill

it is a huge air filter with a very large surface area of filtration medium - usually a big round paper element - similar to the big rigs http://shop.airflowonline.com/Merch...ode=AFSI&Product_Code=B105006&Category_Code=D

the problem hear in lies: the manufactures of diesel pickups under utilize the potential and efficiency of our diesel pickup trucks by putting restrictive intake and exhaust systems on them (so they sound pleasant to the average girl).

there is no design/engineering in providing large amounts of cool-filtered air into our "air pumps" (the engine itself) in which they demand.

Thanks for the info,Wonder if their is enough room behind the inner fender well?

Mike

PS,This thing rides so much better than my 02 ever did!The turning radius is also better. Think I should have bought one instead of wasting my money on the 02!

FWIW- I had a BHAF on my 01 and loved it. I just installed a AFE drop in on my 03, the AFE's are said to meet the OEM's filttration specs.

I had previously put a few holes on the intake side to try and get the filter minder to behave with a fresh stock element (made no difference that I could see. )

Well , I just ran 3000 miles through colorodo, Utah and back (World Supercrawl-we choked). with the edge on 5 and 9000 lbs of trailer the filter minder never budged from the reset position.

I'd love to tell you how the EGT's came down but I had just sold my gages to a friend wanting some used gages (I'm going to get the edge gage module when it comes out and I know my trucks EGT behavior).

Bottom line- I'm extremely impressed with the AFE drop in, the system has to be even better.

I cut a 3 1/2 hole in the air box right behind the grill between the intercooler and the front fender. I took some PVC that was threaded on one side and faced it outward. I also bought a 3 1/2 threaded plug to fit into the pvc when it rains. This little bomb of mine has increased the spool up of the turbo. almost forgot I have a AFE drop in filter above the cut out. You can see a picture of it on my Readers rig.
