Big Ben in accident

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies

Thanks, TDR Staff

Dog Owners...

Teddy Bears Picnic!

I was just watching KDKA, they're covering live... a woman made a left turn right in front of him on 2nd street in Pittsburgh. He hit the car on the RF fender, went over the handlebars and hit the windshield. He wasn't wearing a helmet... no further details are available yet.

Hmmm, wear a helmet for a 300+ lb. lineman, but don't need one for 3000+ lb. car... I wonder if his contract has one of those "Motorcycle or other dangerous things, etc. . " clauses...

I don't want to hijack this thread and do not want to debate the helmet issue... . there was another thread a while back on that. If there is a clause in his contract about motorcyle helmets or if the accident was his fault then Ben is the one to blame. If the other driver was at fault then that driver is to blame. The helmet DID NOT CAUSE HIS INJURIES!

Let those who ride, decide!

(soapbox down)

Get well, Ben!

Respectfully,

-frank.

Thought you didn't want to debate... I could care less about the helmet vs. no helmet issue, and of course a helmet didn't cause his injuries, but A HELMET COULD HAVE PREVENTED HIS INJURIES!

Full face may have kept him from getting his jaw broke and from losing some teeth. . But what would that helmet have done for the road rash and the reported damage to his knees from the pavement??

I personally think it is stupid to rid without one but I am even more in favor of letting the rider decide and not the politician.

Heck, now that he doesnt have any teeth he will fit in perfectly in Pitt. He can marry a beautiful pumpkin head and they can gum each other at night!

Like I read on advrider.com, what if wearing a helmet while playing football was an option? How many guys wouldn't? Helmet laws should be strictly enforced and should be instituted in states that do not have them, like here in Colorado.

And from the title of this post, I thought you meant something happened to the clock tower in London ;) I actually care more about that then "him".

Nick

turns out its a 62yr old lady that left turned infront of him. I dont know all the details like ya'll, but I have a feeling its one of those ladies that shouldnt be driving anymore... just today i saw 2 near accidents due to an older person behind the wheel not paying attention or mis-judging traffic speeds around them. I swear I see this crap at least 3-4 times a week. Many times they even miss seeing me... my truck is LOUD, has a 5" lift, a bumper the size of texas, I have no idea how anyone can miss my truckin thier blind spot... yet they do.

oh, and just for the record... Not saying all older peeps shouldnt be driving, but for the life of me, I can not understand why the hell they do not have driving preformance tests for people every 3-4 years. I dont care if I would have to pay 20 bucks every 3-4 years to drive the test course and dodge the cones... if it ment keeping dangerous drivers off the road, I would gladly follow suit.

1. A novice rider (no license, only an expired learner's permit)

2. The fastest production motorcycle available

3. No helmet

Looks to me like the gene pool is just purging itself.

(And, yes, I ride - see signature. ATGATT)

Yep, Darwin has a good thing going. As long as their organ donor's card is signed, let 'em wear what they want.

ATGATT indeed.

Well now.......

Having survived a similar automobile/motorcycle encounter, I can only offer my hopes for his complete recovery. 90% of all car/bike collisions are left turn in front of the bike type events. The bike has the right of way, but is in such a lousy position to defend itself. PLEASE look out for bikes when you drive! Thanx from those of us who do. Don.

I thought you guys were talking about the big clock in London, not some guy! Who is Big Ben, a TDR member?

My old boss who is now in South Carolina got ran over by a car while driving his Hog not long ago. Driver left turned into him, knocked him over and bascially ran over him, breaking his leg in several pieces, a couple ribs, etc.

Hey Nick!! I hear Communist China is looking for a few good men.

PA just got rid of that stupid law, next, axe the seatbelt law.

The way I see it, his face was a "crumple" zone. A helmet would have held him rigid and broke his neck. As it was, the brunt of the blow was used up mashing his face, ie useless parts!

Oh, there is only one thing stupider than riding with no helemt, I believe.

Riding a motorcycle in the first place.
