A few of you may have noticed by my latest posts, but I am in the process of putting together the parts needed to make a second gen (00-02) 3500 CTD as big as possible. (Jgheen is my model to go by). I have seen some big trucks around this site. is there anyone with photo's or info to make this process painless. Any pictures will help. Please send them or post them here. Thanks!!!

So you're wanting to do a big lifted dually with a Kelderman kit and maybe 22. 5" truck tires or something?



I'm not big on lifted trucks but I've seen some duallys set up right and look great lifted several inches, but IMO there comes a point where you've gone too high and it no longer looks cool. I've got 40s on mine. Big Michelin military tires. I can't go anywhere without someone doing a double take on my truck.



My pics on are on my other laptop. I'll see if I can upload them tomorrow. Will 40s on a 6" lift suffice? IMO, anything bigger is a waste for the following reasons:



1) The larger tires won't fit in the wheel well. Which means you will need a "body lift" yet your chassis is still riding low. So there is no real clearance height gained for off-roading. No real sense in that unless you just want everyone to look at you for being so high up there.



2) Larger than 40" puts a tremendous amount of weight on your driveline and axle. I'm already pushing it as I'm at 110 lbs per tire. Go up to 44 or 48" and you'll be at 200-250 lbs per tire/ rim. That's a lot of weight on the end of a Dana 80 at 70 mph.



3) I can easily get in and out of my rig at 6" lift.



4) I can fit in almost any parking garage and/ or drive thru even with my contractors rack up top... although the clearances are usually mere inches.

Vaughn, I would NEVER go anything bigger than 5 inches. There are some guys on this forum with some big trucks!! I just want to be able to clear 315/75 16 tires without any rub. thats as tall as I will go.

Here is a quick pick of my truck when I put the 7" coils on it. The other truck is a Kelderman show truck as far as I know.

My truck has 7" Skyjacker coils and 8" Atlas leafs in the rear with no blocks. My cousin just lifted his '98 black dually with a 5" Superlift kit and it is almost as tall as mine. Good luck with you choice and quest for air..... BTW, I appreciate you using my truck as a mock-up. :D



I have some other pics in the off-roading forum that have pics with the 38. 5" Boggers installed. I would ave posted them here but TDR won't let you post multiple pics in different threads. If you do a search in the off-roading forum under my user name you should find them. :)

Joe, at this point I need some opinion. I plan on finding an 00-02 truck and putting 315/75/16 tires on it. I do not off road(like I should), and don't pull trailers very often. what is necessary to get the 315 spaced tires under the truck without a lot of air(even though a truck like your is AWSOME). My dream setup is non dual rim in the front(315 tire) dual rims spaced on the rear with 315's, and a leveling kit. What is the smallest lift I can get away with. Thanks

Well, I would think a 2-4" lift would be fine but you could probably run those tires stock and just get a rear wheel spacer for that wide of a tire(315). Look into Arrowcraft conversions at their wheel spacers. I got their 2" spacer for the rear tires in order to run my 37x12. 50 tires.

Unfortunately I lost all my pics. when my computer crashed last year (shoulda saved them to CD!!!). I had a 98 12v QC I used the Tough Country lift (4" I think) with some Super Lift lower coil spacers. You weld them in they give 3/4 or 1" extra lift. I used the adapters and went with 22. 5s with 255s. Those tires stood right at 37" brand new. They cleared fine and it was easy to get in and out of...
 
There is a group around me called "sibling rivalry". I know they have a web site, I just can't remember it. One of the trucks is a 2nd generation dually with the v-10. Huge lifts on these things. Good Luck!
