Did you.....................

Cummins at equipment auctions.

They just put in a new generator where I work. 30 liters of pure Cummins V-12. I can't wait till they fire that baby up  It is 1. 1 mega watts!

Think they would miss the turbo off that puppy :-laf

You had beeter make that Turbos. Take a peek & Count the turbo's & let us know how many it has... . I am guessing 3. anyone else care to guess?

It looks just like that. I can't even see the turbo's as they are 12' off the ground! It sits on a 1700 gallon tank.

Well, here's a 6. 3 MW (8450 HP) dual fuel (diesel and natural gas) genset manufactured by my employer:

V-20, 15. 5" bore x 22" stroke, 400 RPM. The turbocharger has a 24" diameter compressor impeller.

It actually is a big brother to the FVBL, which Cooper-Bessemer built for locomotive service and sold to GE (among others) for years. GE eventually bought the manufacturing rights, patterns, tooling, drawings, etc. for the engine.

The LSVB shares the articulated master connecting rod design with the FVBL as well as the KSV, a 13" bore x 16" stroke engine that fits between the FVBL and the LSVB.

How noisy is something that big at "full tilt"?

Does it have spark plugs for the NG mode?

Which fuel makes peak power?

Pretty loud, but not as loud as you might think if the intake and exhaust piping is suitably insulated.

No, when in dual fuel mode, it uses a pilot shot of diesel to ignite the air/methane mixture in the cylinder. The mix, by BTU, is from 1. 5% (CleanBurn) to 4% (normal combustion) diesel with the remainder of the energy from methane. The engine can switch back and forth between the two fuel modes (straight diesel and dual fuel) on the fly - under full load and speed.

The engine is rated for the same power in both modes.
