Which Truck Cap?

When I bought my truck(06 2500 CTD) I got the Big Horn Edition package, and at that time I lived in OR. Back then(Sept 06) it was only available on the west coast. Back here in MA,I see a few 07/08 1500 Big Horns, but they have a different badges(small ram on tailgate not written out on the sides of the door like mine) than mine. Is this the same package as mine and if so why havent I seen it on a 2500 yet?

Actually, the "Big Horn" package includes stickers for the doors... and that's it.

Dealers buy the stickers and put them on the vehicles. There is no "package", per se. The only thing "special" about a Big Horn edition is the sticker.

Same with the "Lonestar" edition.

Ryan,

Sorry, I normally agree with what you write but can't this time. In model year '06 there were three factory option packages that combined a number of popular features like Premium Cloth 40/20/40 seat, tow package, and a couple not so popular like manual sliding rear window. The option package included a discount of approximately $450 on the invoice. The package content was identical but dependent upon the region where the truck was ordered the package was labeled "Lone Star" (TX) some stock car racing name like "Thunder Road" in the southeastern states, and "Big Horn" everywhere else. A chromed plastic badge was factory installed on the doors. My '06 Ram had the "Lonestar" package. My '08 cab and chassis didn't offer the package but I think pickups still do because I see the "Lonestar" badge on the lower left tailgate corner on some pickups at local dealers.

Without getting my envoice out,(It's in Wi. ) I'm pretty sure my 06 Big Horn pkge. included: Sat. radio, forged alum. whls; towing mirrors, hitch, and wiring. Maybe more, maybe less, but I don't think it was just badging.

I remember thinking it was a good deal when I bought it.

I have an 07 2500 with the Thunder Road package, purchased in N J. I remember looking through the dealer pamlet and it explained what options came with the Thunder Road, Big Horn and I think there may have been another, not sure. I have seen the Big Horn badges/ sticker, but none for the Thunder Road. Mind came with Sat. radio, forged alu wheels, Premium Cloth 40/20/40 seat, electric heated towing mirrors, hitch, wiring, power rear slider and cloth 60/40/60 seats.

For 08 the Big Horn package is gone. It was replaced by the Prefered Option Package. The Big Horn option is now just the Big Horn badge.

If I remember correctly, my Big Horn package included the snow plow prep, fog lamps and a couple of other things. It was a demo on the lot when I purchased it.

i happen to have an '08 Big Horn" edition... . i would need the sticker in front of me,but,it has a ram and bighorn badge on the tailgate,"billet grille",power slider rear window, heated and power towing mirrors, sat radio, power pedals, and perhaps a few more minor things..... no big deal..... but,the sticker CLEARLY states "BigHorn Edition"... ... tom;)

Okay, I think I understand now. I was thinking that the various editions were being marketed as containing options available only in those special editions.

They certainly aren't - it's possible to order any ordinary truck with the options you guys have listed.

This suggests, then, that the only distinguishing characteristic of the special edition trucks is they came with the sticker and a small discount.

That's where my confusion was. I just didn't want people to think that these editions were particularly "special", or contained options available only with the editions.

Sorry about that.

Ryan

Ryan,

The various options could all be ordered individually but to sell more options Dodge packaged a group of them, called them Lonestar, Big Horn, or Thunder Road, and discounted them several hundred dollars to make them more attractive to buyers. I ran the numbers off an invoice price list before I ordered my '06 and found that by taking the manual sliding rear window I didn't want, I saved a couple hundred dollars on the options I did want and would have ordered anyway.

I found an '06 brochure and can provide a list of the option package items now if anyone wants them.

I knew that my co worker's 08 1500 isnt a big horn but a guy at work keeps bustin my chops over this kid having a big horn, but all it is is a badge on the tailgate, not sure about the other options the truck has. Since I have moved back to Mass I have yet to see another big horn or any other package.
