Hello I have been lurking for quite awhile and this is my first post.

My search came up empty . I am getting ready to buy a 2011 Dodge Ram 3500 DRW 4X4.

I have compared similar options on the SLT and the Big Horn and the Big Horn with what appears to be exact same features is usually about $500 more the SLT . I am probably missing something !

Does anybody know the reason for this ?

What a great forum and magazine .

Thanks in advance !

Welcome to TDR.

I haven't studied the current brochures or online equivalent but in earlier years the Big Horn or Lone Star or Thunder Road I think it was called in the Nascar states of the southeast was just a marketing technique.

The '06 Ram SLT Lone Star I ordered combined several popular options and one or two that were not so popular into a package with a discounted price to make it attractive. I assume the '11 is similar. If you generally like most of the content of the Big Horn package it should be to your advantage to order it. You should get a couple of extra options and a discounted price.

I actually asked the folks at the Dodge dealer the other day about this and their answer was: Nothing.

As Harvey mentioned, they are regional packages added for fluff.

Welcome aboard. :)

The Lonestar/Bighorn comes with the same headlights as the Laramie, and has aluminum wheels. Not sure if there are any other differences.

Just order the truck with what you want and not what Dodge dictates to the dealer "truck", or the dealer ordered what is popular "truck". That way you get what you want at the price you want. I ordered my C&C as an SLT but added many features that Laramie has, minus the crap I didn't want. It worked out well for me, its just the wait that sucks. :-laf

Mine is a 07. 5, 2500, Quad cab, SLT, 4x4, hd, sb, 6 sp automatic, 3. 73, limited slip, thunder road pckg, it came with the chrome wheels, michelin tires all season, fog lights, roof lights, rear bed light on roof, pwr driver seat and pwr pedals, it has the screen with programable outside temp, direction, mileage, but no garage dr opener. It has bluetooth. it comes with exhaust brake. Sound system not upgraded. Had one yr Sirius satilite radio free. It listed for 46,380 but I got it for 5k less plus 0% for 60 months in Oct of 07 just before the big 3 fall.
