Well it was bound to happen; fortunately it was no big deal. I was on the freeway acceleration from the on ramp when I heard (and felt) a giant pop, then loss of power and lots of black smoke.

I had to go about 2 miles before I could pull off due to the type of shoulder on the freeway. When I pulled over and opened the hood I was relived to find the hose from the intercooler popped off the ATS Intake.

Questions:

1. Where is a good recourse for quality hoses and clamps?

2. What potential damage was created driving without the hose in place? (I'm thinking in terms of sucking any dirt into the engine)

Defiantly scared the S*** out of me.

Thanks,

PDR diesel sells a nice kit. Tough to install but they stay on there! When you loose boost your EGT's go way up, depending on how hot you got and for how long you could have done from no damage at all, to melting a piston.

The straight boots are available at most commercial truck parts stores. I found them at the Peterbilt store & they were alot cheaper.

How much boost are you running out of the 62? You shouldnt have this sort of problem at your boost level. Sounds like it didnt get installed tight enough or the clamp didnt go all the way over the hose.

We use some Permatex indian head shellac around the turbo boots on the trucks & buses we service. it keeps the boots from getting any oil under them which is often the cause of hose pop-offs. It works well on all hose connections. Makes them nice and slippery for installation and hardens nicely to hold them in place. And is easy to remove when you want to.
