I'd like to install dual horns in the stock location. Would duals be much louder than a single? And, how much louder is this particular "Ebay" horn than the stock one? Thanks!

my opinion much louder and it has a higher tone like a train horn without the deeper base. Im not sure if two horns would fit in the stock location. This horn was a tight fit. Maybe one on each side of the engine compartment.

could you please explain?

Well, if it costs a quarter at Wally World, it will be $5. 25 here, and it will be a cheaper quality item.

It is like a "tourist trap" for truck drivers.

Sorry guys... You just aren't going to get a "real" truck sound from any electric or mini air horn. If you look at my reader's rig gallery your will see what it takes. I have a 24" and a 21" Freightliner mounted under my CTD and it's so loud, I hesitate to blow it... . :D :D

the nicest sounding electric horns that I've heard or on the old Cadillacs...

and Duke, you have to realize that Truckers are a captive audience... they can't park just anywhere and go shopping, and they usually have quite a bit of time to kill. I've always said, if you want to get a trucker to buy something... Chrome It!

So... ... . . . Where did you get it? How does it sound? How much? I need info! I think we all need info!

Start by searching on eBay. You will need 1 to 2 air horns. Get the same type in two different lengths so you will get dual tones. Look for ones that are 18-24" long (the longer ones have deeper tones).

You will need an air tank. If you're good at modifying one, you can pick up one from places like Harbor Freight (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=41712). If you go this route you will have to do some minor mods to it. I welded on a fitting for a drain, and one for a fitting that I could attach an air hose to, for filling tires, ect. If you aren't up to this, you can find small tanks on the internet that are set up for just air horns.

You will need an air pump. I've used Thomas pumps on my last two CTD's and they work very well. I've bought my last two from this seller on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/12V-DC-AIR-COMP...ryZ42247QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

You will need a 12V air solenoid. This is used to activate the air pressure to the horns. You can sometimes find these on eBay, or other places on the internet. Don't buy a cheap one. You need one that will pass as much unrestricted air as possible.

You will need a air pressure sensor/solenoid. This is used to regulate the pressure to the tank and your looking for one that comes on at about 70-90psi and turns off at about 120psi (make sure you don't overpressure the tank you use).

From there is is just a matter of mounting the horns, mounting the tank, mounting the pump and solenoids, running the air lines and electrical. You can see some of this detail on my rig pictures.

The cost of this project depends on how much you can do yourself, or have to buy ready made. I would guess that it will run you from $150 to $250 for all the parts.

When your done, you will have an extremely loud air horn system that is just like the ones on the big rigs. Have fun... :) :)

grover air horns are the only way to go if you want your ctd to sound like the big rigs i spent $265 shipped for my kit with everything you need to operate it and i hooked it to my stock horn switch. you can even air up tires with it too. i love it i fell like ive got machine guns mounted on the front now

I bought one of these as well. For those of you still nervous about ebay, I can tell you that THIS particular seller, "chinaautommcm2", seems to be as good as they come. I left the guy some positive feeback (albeit a bit backhanded- I commented on slow shipping), and he actually followed up via email, wanted to make things right.

That is an absolute FIRST for me on ebay- It's one thing if it is negative feedback, but this guy has 2000+ feeback rating and is still reading the details of the positive feedback he receives.

In summary: A++++++++ WILL DO BUSINESS AGAIN!! ;o

I drive a truck, thats why I know about Iowa 80. And you are correct about about truckers being a captive audience. And (LOL) thats true about if you want to sell something to a trucker, ya gotta chrome it! :-laf :-laf

If you want a REAL horn, look here

If you want a "REAL" train horn, go to a railroad salvage yard, You can get them really cheap there. A buddy of mine got one off of a train engine in El Paso, TX. The guy told him if he wanted it to climb up there and take it off, he could have it for free.

But... ... ... They take a REALLY HUGE air supply, to run.

Funny video, but I want something with a much much deeper tone. Is the horn in the video the same tone as most big air horns?

I'd really like one of the ones they have on large ships... but that would consume the entire bed.
