Check out www.stranaracing.com I remember a short lived series like this back in the late '70's, where they had big rigs racing at Talladega and Daytona. I've always wished somebody would put such a program together again someday... looks like I'm going to get my wish !

WHHOOOOO EEEEEEEE! Gentlemen start your diesels! I can't wait!

SpeedVision has showed the European series of truck racing the last couple of years. Those things look like Semi Tractors but I don't think they'd pull a trailer worth a darn! I remember watching those old Super Speedway tractor races 20+ yrs ago. They showed the drop lot where those "Good Ole Boy's" dropped their trailers in the parking lot! I seem to remewmber the SWB tractors getting better right frt tire life at speed, 90+ mph. Few LWB tractors blew frt tires with disaterous results, wadded the whole thing up in a little ball!

Briar Hopper,

I went to a few of those races. Guys were running their stock rigs initially then it became more sophisticated and the trucks were for racing only. That was a good thing as one guy went over the wall. Hope he didn't have a hotload to deliver. Anyway, some of these guys were over 1000 hp which was pretty cool IMHO for that time. I lived close to Pocono International so got to see some races. It was really cool to see all the black smoke at the start, so much the trucks would be obscured. They were limited speed wise by the tires available at that time. The races were quite exciting though, for me, just as interesting as NASCAR at that time. I had heard they races ended due to the rigs deteriorating the tracks. Hope they make a comeback!

I remember seeing some on TV, didn't they have one in at least one of the Smokey and the Bandit movies, I believe they had at least one on BJ and the Bear too. (uh oh - I'm dating myself here).

As Dr. Evil pointed out, Stupidvision shows some Euro Truck Racing on a BBC program called 'Motorsport Mudial'. The rules for the series goes sorta like this: single drive axle, diesel fuel only, a minimum weight, must have a hitch plate. What I know about it is most of the trucks sport in the neighborhood of 2000hp!! they have 6 and 7 speed sequential racing gearboxes, water-cooled brakes (the steam just POURS off during the race!!), mid engine placement, usually center-seat driving position, custom-made race tires with hand-carved tread, top speed is artificially limited to 100mph. These boys are rough, and professional. . they play to win with BIG money. The rigs arevery serious race machines with intricate cages and state-of-the-art race technology... WAY COOL!!!! Going in circles is just that... . going in circles.

hehehehe, my first thought was also of the Smokey and the Bandit movie (1st one). If it makes you feel any better Steve, I also remember watching BJ and the Bear #ad

This sounds great, hope it makes it to ESPN.

A little off topic here, but the best part of "B. J. and the Bear" was the girl named "Stacks" #ad
Even the chimp was looking at her... #ad
I remember reading once in People magazine that all the girls on that show had to fight off the chimp ! ROFLMAO
