In BC every pickup has a commercial plate regardless of use and a commercial vehicle inspector is free to inspect any vehicle they choose. Required stops at weigh scales is determined by licensed weight, not use and certain types of trailers (like travel trailers) are generally exempt.

But you're right -- the vehicle inspector doesn't care about the GCVWR in the brochure.

Driver's licenses are determined by the equipment (axles and weight), not commercial or personal use unless you're a driver for hire hauling people (i. e. a taxi or limo driver).

I've been into and through BC many, many times and it is amazing you don't know your own laws. BC is the only place in North America, that I am aware of, that does care what the manufacturers GCWR is and will ticket you if it is exceeded. The applicable regulation was posted in the RV.net forums not too long ago during a similar discussion by a resident of B. C.

It was reinforced by post #s 9 & 11 in this thread. http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/registering-over-10k-t266692.html

First, the poster is from Saskatchewan which is another province in Canada. Second, he exceeded his pin weight which would put him over his GVW.

I searched forums rv.net for "regulations" but I'm not inclined to go through 1,200 threads. Most seem to be related to guns.

Here's the current CVSE Trailer Towing FAQ (CVSE = COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SAFETY AND ENFORCEMENT).

edit: And check out this thread I started over at bc4x4.com: Towing and Licenced GVW Redux. Note that the poster mermaid. 5 is a CVSE inspector so his opinion matters.

My apologies Road Dog. Thinking back to the RV.net thread, they were talking about GVWR. Obviously the guy who posted on the DTR was mistaken. Now I am doubly glad that I snuck through BC on my way to SK in the dark of night pulling a 40+ ft toyhauler with slideouts. :-laf Thanks for the info.
