hello all!

i want to get more power so it´s time for bigger injectors and turbo. I was thinking DDP3 injectors and 191 DV´s but when it comes to choosing turbo. . ah so confusing. . so many options, manufacturers etc. I use my truck as a daily driver,no towing, strip or pulling. sometimes little stoplight to stoplight "racing" :-laf so which turbo would be best for me?for example htb2 62(62/12) or something else?suggestions?I would like to have it minimal smoke and fast spool up. what kind of hp/tq do you think i would be pushing with those?

I'm far from a expert, but I'm looking into the same things as you. Some top 12v guys have told me the HTT 62/13 S/S is a perfect choice.

RSivula , I'm not sure , but my guess is the DVs may be a little too much .

Ghost Rider ,
Thats about where I'm at also .

The turbo to me in one of the hardest performance items to get. Not that it's hard to physically get but instead it's hard to figure out which one in particular to get.

I've been down this road several times for past trucks and my current truck and I still have not made my mind up on which turbo will improve heat and performance in normal driving/towing conditions. I don't drive with my foot on the floor all the time so I don't care if it gets hot while racing. Racing only last so long vs. normal driving & towing happens all the time.

The only mods I've tried so far with the turbo have been just changing the housing. I have had no luck with that path. I put 16cm exhaust housing on one of my trucks and it only made spool up real slow and heat was actually hotter. That was about 6+ years ago when those exhaust housing were a common mod. Last year I tried a HTT stage III compressor housing with 60mm high flow wheel. It did absolutely nothing compare to the stock turbo other than make A LOT of noise. So a waste on money in both cases.

I've since then put the turbo hunt on the shelf. I thought I would wait to see the results of the then new (last year) 62/13 SS turbo or one of the variable turbos ($2500). It's a lot of $$ for a minimal gain in power. Basically I see a turbo as one of those items that really just help control the power & heat flow. Which makes it all that much more important to have it match you engine/power/airflow setup?

I'm still running the stock HX35. Surprisingly it does very well. I like the fast spool up and my temps when running hard get hot (up to 1500°) but I don't run hard for more than 15 seconds at a time (light to light). With normal driving and towing my temp stay below 1200° (max).

Last I looked (a year ago) I was eyeing the 62/13 or 62/12 (for faster spool up). Has anyone been using one of these that can comment (honestly) at what improvements over stock have been?

RSivual, I think you will like the DDP3 injectors. I have thought about the 191DVs but I put them on hold. I'm trying to find a 215 pump instead. Then once I have that pump on I'll dyno to get the current results to help find the correct turbo. My current setup dyno'd at 355HP 777 FT lbs. . I'm aiming for 400HP.

If you want to keep the smoke down to a minimal do not get the 191 delivery valves. They will roal the coal. For your setup and what you are wanting to do i would think that the htt or ii 62/12 or even the 64/12 would suit you great. Tom C , if you are shooting for 400 hp why are you going to spend the money on a 215 pump? You deffinetly dont need it to get to 400. I would get a diferent fuel plate and a turbo like one i talked about above and you should be there no prob. If you wanted to be sure get the delivery valves.

just my 2 cents.

CRohwedder, I have had a couple of trucks with the 215 pump and performance and tuning in my experience has been better & easier with them vs. the 180 I now have. A local salvage yard will sell a 215 for $500. I just need to keep up with them to be there when one shows up. The pump should give me more of a gain than the DV's for not much more $. Plus I would have a spare pump or I could sell the old one and recoop some $ for a turbo.

I do have another plate that I ground down into a cross between a 100 and 10 (basically a 10 with a a little more off the top). I could feel some increase in power but not enough to make 400hp. Actually the only reason I took it out was do to some afc housing ajustments I was making and I thought the plate had something to do with the results I was getting.

RSivula, What HP are you shooting for?

decision,decions..

ok my turbo choise will probably be htb2 62 but i´m still wondering which turbine housing to go?62/12 or 62/14?how big difference there are between these two?injectors will be DDP3`s. can I stay with stock DV´s?everybody says always to get bigger DV´s but is it a must do?or is it just for those "who like to see unburned fuel behind them",everytime they hit the floor with go pedal. . little smoke is ok,but I don´t like it when it gets like this. . http://tinyurl.com/27qj2e

it´s ok when racing or pulling but in the city it´s more like embarrassing. . and again-unburned fuel, that just my opinion. . I know thera are alot of "smoke freaks" :-laf no hard feelings. . :)

RSivula, You can always put a valet switch on. That way no smoke for normal driving then hit the switch and away you go... :-laf I think I read one time of someone on this site that had a switch that had several power positions (a variable switch of sorts). Might take a look at the turbo Ghost Rider mentioned.

Let use know what you get and how it works out.

Hi all!
we had a little Ram meeting here in Finland and there was also opportunity to go dyno. my truck pulled out 260 hp @ 2000rpm. max torq was 1118Nm @ 1500 rpm. rwp was 231 hp and 1021 Nm. stock injectors and i believe fuel plate is in stock position. havent touched it yet,it´s how previous owner installed it. intresting to see what´s the difference after i get DDP 3´s and turbo upgrade. few pics from meeting and video there. look closely and you´ll see someone who you "all know" here in tdr ;)

So far I've made a similar conclusion with my WH1C turbo on a 6. 5L Chevy, I went from 56MM wheel to 60MM wheel and left the turbine housing alone.

No difference that I could tell.

Now, on the other hand, I have another WH1C on another engine that has the IV wheel and 14cm turbine and that thing made a TON of noise, but kept EGT's way down.

The next turbo I wanna try would be an S300 Switzer, I think this is the Single B Turbo by BD.

acmdsl, Is this the one your looking at?

Per PDR:

The PDR Super S300 is recommended as a replacement for the existing turbos on 1994 - 2002 Dodge RAM diesels. The Super S300 turbo is intended for moderately upgraded trucks that tow and/or for those running up to 400hp. Think HX40 air flow with HX35 spool up
