bigger intercooler???

i need a larger intercooler for my 93. i have swapped one in from a second gen but it took a lot of room and fit poorly. would a power stroke one be any better or should i get a custom one made. i want the biggest i can get reasonable.



i am doing a swapping in a p-pump motor and am planning for a lot of power. so everyting will be custom plumbing anyways.



any help???

Anyways, uh... the second gen cooler will fit, a lot of people have done it. It just takes some brain cells and some effort.

BTW: where in northern Wisconsin do you live? We used to have a cabin up in Lac Du Flambeau. North of Minoqua I think. I'm sure I spelled something wrong there...

I have a guy keeping an eye for a 2nd gen cooler to go into my 91. I have the grille, but have no preset holes to worry about. I've measured it, and it looks like it will fit and work. I tell ya, the pipes and intake are a LOT bigger on the 2nd Gens than the 1st Gens.

Mark knows about high performance 1st Gens, if his can be classified as such.

there is not a lot of room in there for the second gen intercooler. it can be done, though. it must be mounted upside down from the second gen and then a couple mounting parts must be left out that helps hold the grille in. the the safety hood latch must be taken out or shortened somehow, i have just left them out. then once it is in there the battery must be moved over to fit the piping around, and also the puke can for the radiator must be moved too.

p. s. i live near medford, minoqua is about two hours to the north east of me. big tourist trap... i stay away.

I did the Banks early on and the fit and finish were perfect.

huge difference in size of passages.

Chris, what I menat was, that though my pickup isnt intercooled, I have the grille that the intercooled trucks have, thus I dont have quite the fit headaches of the 89-90s.



WHile on the subject of 2nd gen coolers... ... Is it possible to flatten one that has been bowed out? I could probably get it for next to nothing, and will most likely have to redo the mounts anyway, so if I could get it straight, I may see how much I can talk him down.
