All a Banks QuickTurbo housing is, to my understanding, is a 14cm wastegated housing for a HX35/H1C, with the gate set to pop open at the low end of the efficiency range, i. e. err on the side of caution to prevent the turbo from launching out of the earth's atmosphere. That in itself is good, but some have run into problems with EGTs when limited to 20 something psi boost and heavier fuelling. Think they set it for the low 20s. I'd say from personal experience, that you would be better off with a non gated housing. The 12cm I ran was just too aggressive for more than 30 or so psi boost. (Ok, I pegged my 40psi boost gauge regularly with the 12cm and EDMs). I put the 18 back on, and ported it some, as per the instructions in the sticky atop the forum here.
If you are looking to cut smoke, I'd suggest try tightening your AFC spring tension (turn the startwheel upwards) to about 5-6 turns from the bottom. THis can make a big difference in low end smoke, and still give good acceleration. AFter that, a timing advance to the 1. 5-1. 6mm range; no more than 1. 7mm, as you will start to lose the advantage of the advance, and really increase your cylinder pressures. Then pop test your injectors. They should be in the 245bar (3500psi) range, and within 2-3%, though I could be wrong on the variance. This all is assuming the air filter and fuel filters are in good shape.
