Hello and Happy New Year.

I do have Q. about turbo upgrade. I do have HY 35 with 9cm housing. Do I will see more power or just less exhaust temperature, if I swith to Piers Hx 35 with 12cm housing ? Will bigger turbo have to much lugging ?My another Q. is about EDN injectors. Will a Mach 1. 5 or 2 work with my small turbo and Power Edge or they will smoke to much ? Any good deal for them anywhere ? Reason I em looking for more power is that I purchased bigger trailer, weight around 9000# loaded and more power is always in need:D

But even with this weight I don't have exhaust temperature problem. Only one time I so over 1000F going over Grapevine in southern CA.

Thanks

When I was running DD1's and an EZ, at first I ran the stock HY then switched to a PDR35/12 and noticed no increased lag but it gave lower EGTs(stayed below 1000*) I have a friend that is running Mach2's/DragComp with a PDR35/14 and he likes it, says the EGTs are controllable and so is the smoke.

The turbo either 12 or 14 cm housings will lower egts. The EDM's smoke less than non edms and will have slightly less egts. If you tow and have a box and bigger injectors you will have to watch egt's as they can get over 1300 easily.

But will be any power gain from bigger turbo ? Did will bigger turbo put more boost to the engine ? Sorry for so many Q's

M

You will gain power only if you don't have enough air to burn the fuel you're delivering. That was my case and turbo did increase my power, but I'm running much more fuel.

Power is from fuel. With no black smoke at boost, then you're probably burning nearly all of your fuel. More air will cool things without adding power---but you may find that you can run harder (burning more fuel) with the "extra" air---so that you have more useful power.

The Dodgezilla is good for about 20-25hp on my truck depending on the dyno. The real advantage is the drop in EGT's which allow you to add more fuel.

Thanks

No more than a Mach 2. 4

Bob, little confusion with the # for EDM.

On Rip site I see #1 #1. 5 # 2,3,4,5,6 but not a 2. 4.

What you think will be maximum size of the EDM"s ,if I stay with HY35 turbo ? I was thinking about size 1. 5, which is a equivalents to dd2's. What is your opinion ? Thanks

Bob, you are all wrong! I think he could easily handle a Mach 2. 483572:rolleyes:

Only when he gets over Mach 2. 49375 will he have EGT issues with the HY turbo.....

Tongue now removed from cheek...

There are standard Mach configuration and then there are the in between sizes.

With your HY turbo and towing I would not go over Mach 1's and that may be pushing it, depending on elevation, temperature etc.

Turnbuckle that Wastegate and go mach 3's. ;)

Bob,

You kind of got me confused now. I've been doing searches to see what kind of results can be expected with an EZ and DDII's in towing applications (>6k). Most, if not all ,say they don't have to much of a problem with the stock HY and EGT's but would go with the EDM2's if had the chance. You wouldn't recommend the 2's?

The wife gave me the green light for transmission and "slight" engine mods and I'd like to use the biggest injector (hoping for EDM 2's)using my stock HY... ... ... for now anyways.

Double J,

I ran the DD II's and an EZ for about a year with the stock HY with no problems. Wanted to go up the hills alittle faster so purchased the DDUFM and pierced the pump wire. Still no EGT problems towing light, about 7000#. My only worry was the 35# boost gauge pegging the needle really fast.

EGT drop is a given. The more power you have with that small turbo, the more power you will gain when going to something larger.

For instance, with your current setup, I would guess you'd have about 280hp or so. At that power level, you won't see much if any HP gain. Now, if you had a Comp/Ultimate instead, the truck would make around 340hp or so, and at that level going from your HY to a hybrid like ours or the PDR or Dodgezilla should give around 10-15hp.

If you had DD2's and that Comp/Ultimate, the truck would make in the 400-410hp range with your HY, and switching to a 40 or Jammer or equivalent would add about 35-40hp.

So, the more power you make, the more restrictive that stock turbo becomes, and the more you would gain stepping up in turbo size.

azpete,

Did you go for the whole DTT treatment or just v/b and t/c? I'm sure the nice foks at DTT will tell me what I need when I'm ready to order but just curious.
