Show me pics! I am thinking of making one, or having one made. What I am thinking of was an idea off a 00 PSD I saw a few years ago. It was large, 4" or 5" pipe, mandrel bent to match the lines on his truck, level with the outside and top of the cab, and painted the same burgundy color. It was nothing special, just big. One 'hoop' of pipe, no sun shade or lights built in, although I will probably add lights on brackets. Was mostly for looks, as will be mine, though I am sure I will use it if need be. I was thinking an exhaust shop could bend it, and I could weld some brackets on to mount it to the bed rails.

Any ideas?

Nick

I built one last Christmas break. I used 3/16" x 2. 5" square tubing. There's pics in my reader's rigs. As small as it is compared to your idea it still weighed a ton.

Sweet! Looks great, I like the diamond look the welded angles gave! Looks very stout. Not what I am looking for, as I prefer the tube in a hoop style, but I did ask for pictures, and yours does look sweet!

The one that came on my truck is really heavy duty... 2" square tube, the rails are mounted on diagonal posts on flat stock that sits on the top of the bed, and the headache rack itself it welded to the rails... it weight about 200lbs, and takes 3 people to remove it (only did that once :) ). The center section is removeable (by 4 bolts), and is that heave wire mesh. Mine is powder coated grey, with the actual "load stopper" section in the center painted black. Real sharp looking. My reader's rigs pics sort of show it, and I'll get some more pics of it up tomorrow.
