Biggest tire on STOCK rim?????

I know this has been done by many. What is the largest size tire I can fit safely on the stock chrome rim of my '99 2500. I think the rim is a 6. 5". I also have 4W- ABS which has that speed sensor issueso i cant go too tall. What is the experience with 265-75-16 BFG KO's? Thanks!!

Since I installed the 265's now my speedometer reads correctly at 60 MPH on up.

They still look like lowrider tires in that big wheel well though.

Next time I will get 275s or 285s

I think they are a good multipurpose tire. much better built than the GY wranglers that came on the truck. With 91K on the truck I am on my second set of BFGs.

I did over inflate the rears and wore out the center portion of the tread prematurely. #ad


I hit a curb or something hard enough to form a weak spot that eventually failed.

I will keep buying them.

I've got BFG 285-75-16's and they work and look great. I've got over 60k miles on them and counting. I will soon replace them. You could probably go even bigger but I am not sure the spare would fit

I have 305 70 16 on my 98 They are made by Goodyear, dont rub, and they look pretty **** nice on my truck!!!!

My son has a 99 and he just put BFG 295/16 AT
on but he has 8" rims on it. So far they have not rubbed.

I love the way my 4:10s pull. I don't like them when I want to dead head somewhere. Are the 285/70/16s available in load range E ? I think that may give me back a few RPM. Thanx... ... . Barry

I have the tallest 255/85-16D I could find, the Dunlop Mud Rover at 33. 6" O. D. In english, it would be a 34"x10. 50". 6. 5" is an approved rim width for this tire. The tire looks good without fender flares, but a bit skinny with flares. I had them siped for wet weather traction, and they have performed well. Quiet. Over 40,000 miles on them (they're about done, though). Pretty cheap, too. No rubbing under any on or off road conditions that I have encountered...

I had a 99 2500 and wanted a bigger wheel/tire combo for it. The 6. 5 rim is to narrow for a tire 285 or better. If you use your truck to carry groceries then you will probably be ok. If you put the 285 BFG on a 6. 5 rim then look forward to buying new tires soon. Because if you carry any weight at all you will need to raise the air pressure and of course it will cause the center of your tires to wear. I have a 16X8 rim with the 285 and run 50/55 PSI in the tires and have roughly 2000 on them and they still look new.
Do me a favor and go to the BFG dealer they have a little blue booklet that list the tire sizes and recommended rim sizes.
I would not trade my BFGs for anything. Well #ad

I have 285 BFG A/T's on my stk rims. No probs. 23,000 miles. Treads are wearing fine, just rotated them. No rubbing.

I HAVE 285 75 R 16 COOPERS, ON STOCK RIMS WITH AROUND 15,000 MILES ON THEM AND WEARING GOOD SO FAR. THEY LOOK GREAT. SPEEDO IS OFF A FEW MPH, BUT NOT THAT BAD. MY TIRE DEALER POINTED OUT TO ME THAT THE 285 LOAD RANGE D HAS A HIGHER WEIGHT CAPACITY THAN THE STOCK SIZE LOAD RANGE E TIRES DID.

I've got BF Goodrich AT/KO 295/75 16's on 7" rims - they work but are ballooned a bit. A friend has the same tires on the stock 6. 5" wheels - they look really ballooned, but has had no problems or rubbing, but has been wearing them out quickly.

Is anyone moving up to bigger tires having problems with trucks that have 4 wheel ABS?? If so, what size can you go to before a problem starts?
