Biggest tire that can fit where spare mounts? I went to use my tape measure to figure it out but it's MIA.

What are some of the sizes you all are cramming in that spot. I have 295/75/16s on the trucko and have been carrying just the stock size spare in it's mount when I don't have room for the full size spare in the bed. This size definately does not fit under the truck and must go in the bed.

I'm willing go down in tire size to have 5 matching tires but want as big as will fit in the spare mount limits.

actually I'm just assuming the mismatch in size will cause damage in short term use such as a spare.

Cuz what i really want to do is get 35s for this beast. Niether of my diffs are lockers... just limited slip.

What do you think?

Thanks, jeff

285 75 16 fits for sure. That's what I have under there. There's a little bit more room, but not much. I couldn't get a 315 75 16 to fit. I supposed it I had uninflated it though I could have fit it in there.

I fit a 305X70X16 Cooper on a stock wheel in there! It's a tight fit, especially @ 1/2" from the 4" exhaust. Pushed spare all the way to the left (driver side) have someone tighten in place, install spare lock and then installed the 4" exhaust as far possible to the right. Probably would be better if I had a heat sheild by the tire though . . . But, it's there and not in the bed.

Well, here's how a Toyo 285/75/16 fit under my truck - it measured 32. 75 inches in diameter, and firmly hits the frame rails on both sides:

255x85-16 Dunlop works there too! Takes up less room but matches approx. my 285's. When I configured my 4" jardine I had the stock tire in there and didn't figure in the 285 but the 255's fit.

Yup - I obviously had the same issue due to my Rip Rook 4 inch exhaust - so far, I'm counting upon some aluminum shielding to keep heat to the tire within limits...

you can do any thing if you want 35's you my need to go with stacks that would make things roomer under there. stacks not an option ?

I have a kelderman type air ride 4x4 conversion on the drawing table I wish I had a problem like yours! good luck don't settle for less!

thanks for the inputs,

i'm going to just have to try and cram it in there. i don't think its going to go but if joemc got a 305/70 in there i may have a chance. i've got a some oiless chain lube for my mountainbike chain i think i'll squirt all over it first though.

what's up bajabob? just got the brakes on the truck. a couple issues with bleeding and break-in but johns working the issues and i think its going to be a good setup.

take care, jeff

I have tried getting a 295 under mine to no avail - She just won't fit.

Now that I have 315's, I use my spare tire mount to carry my cargo trailer's spare tire.

to all,

just for your information. a bfg a/t 295/75/16 will not even come close to fitting where the stocker spare tire mounts.

d@mn... ... ..... i hate carrying the spare in the bed.

take care, jeff

A 285/75/16 spare fit with 5" Rip Rook exhaust, no trouble. I just push the spare towards the drivers side as it goes into place. I believe I could probably fit a 6" exhaust, may try it someday, the 5" is starting to develop the same problem the 4" did, its starting to look small.

The exhaust isn't as big an issue as the frame rails - the exhaust can USUALLY be "adjusted" enough to fit - and a new exhaust simply routed to provide greater clearance - but unless you are willing to notch the frame rails for added clearance, you only have 32 3/4 inches frame spacing, and thats IT! ;) :D

285s fit but when my suspension cycles upward on the drivers side the tire hits the piggyback mounted res on a 2. 5 fox shock. solution move tire to the bed.
