I'm a little rough on my tools and I figured sooner or later my Smarty would get dropped, smashed or run over. So I made an aluminum case for it so it has better chance of surviving an "incident". I thought you guys might like to see it.

Just too cool... .

When are these for sale?

Heck, if they get $30 for a stupid IPod case, how much more is a SMARTY case worth?

Ok - I REALLY WANT ONE OF THESE! :D I hope your planning on putting these into production, because I'm gonna bombard you with PMs until you do! :-laf

Seriously, that is a really good idea and it looks like it really fits well. I'm in.

I am gonna guess you won't touch the case for less than $200. It does look good though. Unless you set one up on a CNC, I just see it being quite time consuming to make one.

Thanks guys, I was really happy with the way it turned out. :)

As far as making more to sell I think they would cost more than your willing to pay. It would be hard to make them for less than $150. But I'm willing if you got the $$$. :-laf

Be cheaper and easier to make a mold and diecast one outta aluminum... In volume of course...

Yeah that would cut the cost down. Right now its $40 for the aluminum stock, about $30 for the anodizing, about an hour of polishing and the rest it time on the CNC mill.

Regardless, you've sure done an outstanding job on yours - how much time do you figure you have in that, from doing the design to completion?

Staggering I bet!

I probably have 20hrs in to it and I still want to do some engraving on it.

I am planning on getting a Smarty too, so this gives me an idea. I am a woodworker, I make furniture, so I'll make mine out of a beautiful piece of rosewood, or cocobolo, maybe even zebrawood. Good idea, really.

I think we Smarty owners should pony up a few bucks and buy Marco this case. Get it engraved too. I'll kick in the first $10.
