I called OFW and got the group discount for the Bilstein shocks. What do I have to do about the bushings? I have heard several members with problems wearing out the bushings?
What do you mean "install them right". Could you shed some light on their installation and sequence of the shock, washer, shock tower, bushing, cap, nut, etc. I'm about ready to install a set of my own. Thanks in advance.
I don't think all the problems people have had were the result of wrong installation techniques. Mine simple disintegrated, and many have told me theres did the same. I would use a polyurethane bushing on at least the top mount, if I had to install another set on a truck. They can be ordered or I seen them for about 3 bucks at Pep Boys, they were by Energy Suspension.
even following the directions that I posted from Bilstein, the bushings lasted almost 60 days this last time around.
I'm done with Bilstein's garbage rubber bushings, and I'm going to look for polyurethane replacements, another brands (Rancho?) bushings, or maybe the stock setup. I have heard that the Bilstein 5100/7100 series comes with a different setup - maybe that'll work. I'll post more as I make progress, or otherwise.
Damon, Please do keep us updated with what you find. I was just getting ready to order new bushings, but I think I'll hold off till something better is found. I don't have a pep boys around here, so I'll have to wait.
