Need to replace my shocks, see below for truck info. I am stock ride height and do not plan on any lift. I was looking at Bilsteins and have read/heard a lot of good things about them. I have a couple of questions though.

1) Can the 5100 (silver/black) be used on an unlifted truck or do I have to use the yellow/blue OEM stlye ones.

2) I have looked acouple of places online and have noticed that they list different GVW ratings for the yellow and blue shocks. Which should I get? I rarely tow or haul but when I do it tends to be on the heavy side.

ANy other info you have would be great.

Thanks in advance,

J-

Go with whateve is recommended for your truck based on GVW your probably 8800. Check door sticker to be sure. I'm happy with the yel/blu ride is real nice but I never tow anything. What's the difference between the silver and the yel/blu?

I'm not sure if it's still avaiable but I thought there was a special membership deal on the Bilsteins from Off Road Warehouse I enedup with BE5-2549 (front) and BE5-2550 (rear) @ 57. 99 each. Total nut was 231. 96 to my door. Install was a PIA for the front as the bottom bolts are a read chore. I had to get a breaker bar and cheater pipe to get them broken loose. I bought two new bolts from the dealer for the bottom fronts just because I didn't know if they were going to snap when I went to r & R the shocks. Glad I did as the right one was worn from the shock not being tightened enough to pinch the sleeve in shock's rubber grommet between the pinch tabs where the bolt goes through. Make sure after you think they are tight to get a big screwdriver in between the bottom shock and the spring perch to check for any wiggle @ the inner shock sleeve. make sure you have a cheater and a breaker bar. Oh, start soaking the nuts with penetrating oil now - daily it'll help when you go to brake them loose.

Have fun.

JCyrbok - check with eShocks.com. They are a site sponsor on here and are located in Michigan. I have the silver/black 5100's on my stock ride height truck with no problems for about 10k miles. I bought mine from ORW and paid shipping at that time eShocks had free shipping but a higher price on the shocks. After the fact, I learned the total cost was the same but it takes a week to ship from California to Ohio.

cool thanks for the info guys. How do u like the ride of the Bilstein's? I here is is very good. I have 65k on my orginal shocks and from what I hear that is overdue so I am guesting that I could put any shocks in and have an improvement.

Thanks

At first I found them a bit stiff but after a few weeks they seemed to even out and now I love them. They are stiffer than stock as I can remember but the control over bumps is awesome.

I got over 70,000 miles on mine and they are still good they work well with the slide in and a boat behind or the 5th wheel
