I tought I was smokin' dope! I've been trying to get Bilsteins for my truck since I got it. Every month Thyssen/Krupp tells me that they are still N/A. Evidently, they still are.

BTW, KORE uses Fox Remote Reservoir, Bilstein 7100-series Remote Reservoir, or BIlstein 5100-series shocks, depending on desired performance (and expenditure) level. They are all custom-valved by Kent Kroeker and Co. to the statisfaction of the end user. If I had a modded truck, was off-roading, and/or wanted to spend a lot of money, I'd go to KORE. For a stock, hi-way only daily driver, I just want a set of stock HD gasdruckstossdampferen (gas shocks, LOL!) like I had in my old 2nd Gen. Gasser.

I'm quite sure Kent gets his Bilstein 7100 and 5100 shocks pre valved to his specs and does not offer customer specific valving or revalving on these shocks, only on the Fox race systems.

I have some on order and it's my understanding that Kore does the valving and can make them specific to the application right down to adjusting for a heavy front bumper such ad Road Armour or Buckstop.

I did purchase the 5100's for my 1 ton quad cab 4X4 dually, even if they are specifically made for my truck they made a great difference and were much better than the factory shocks, I replaced mine at 20,000 miles and now have 35,000 miles, they were the best money I've spent on my 04. 5

Wonder what the difference is for the Bilstein's being used on the powerwagon. Several articles rave about the ride of that truck.

Talked to Kent at KORE today, the front shocks on the Pace system are off the shelf 6646 but were up to his specs. They are designed for a 2" lift. The rears are custom valved for him and will be in stock next week. I will be installing the full Pace system with the new rear shocks next week. I'll post my thoughts after a few hundred miles.

Gents,

The Bilstein Dodge-specific OE shocks you're talking about should be available in about four months. We'll be selling them here at KORE. While refining the valving for KORE 7100's, I reviewed the valve specs for these new shocks and found them to be a little too "tight" for general use, but excellent for constant loads and heavy towing.

KORE "Pace" system 5100's are standard Bilstein 6646's. In addition to the Ram 1500's, Bilstein developed the valve profiles in these shocks to perform well in a variety of HD applications - to include some diesel-equipped lifted trucks. We started testing these over a year ago and found that the 6646 profile works great for the front of Dodge 2500 and 3500 trucks as well. It's very supple while still providing plenty of control.

For the rear of the KORE "Pace" system we initially used the standard 6647's. These shocks are great for heavy towing and maximum stability, but I found them to be a little harsh - especially when the bed was empty. I knew we could do better, so I have all our rear 5100's custom-valved. Our rear 5100's start as standard 6647's, then we have a special piston put in that incorporates a one-way check valve that maximizes rebound control while simultaneously permitting smooth and progressive compression. This way we maximize control while minimizing harshness. The KORE 5100 makes a great OE replacement for the rear.

Combine the 6681 (same valving as the 6686, but different external dimensions) for the front with KORE 5100's in the rear, and you've got a beautiful, balanced ride for your non-modified Dodge Ram.

We have everything in stock.

Cheers,

Kent Kroeker

hey kent

I was wondering if I was able to piece a kit together as money comes in. Like buy the shocks, then later buy the rear springs, then the ft springs. Or do you only the pace as a kit? And will I feel a better ride driving empty with only the shocks?

MDale,

We'll be glad to help you do that.

It's best to do one half of the kit at a time. The shocks are designed to work together with the springs, so you won't get the best results unless you install the front or rear system complete.

Kent

Kent, while you're here, I'll just ask.

Why did the price of the chase kit go up? I was looking at it for $1000, now it's $1200 and the leveling kit is still $500. Now it's pretty obvious that going with the leveling kit+ rear shocks leaves you without the mini-packs but the cost is quite a bit less. I had considered the "Chase" system but now I think I'm going to go with the "Leveling kit" + shocks.

Other question... do you guys ever intend on coming out with any different wheels? Honestly, I think the wheels are way too expensive, but I'd pay the price if they gave an appearance that I cared for. I know they'll perform, they're matched for these trucks and they're Welds, no question that means quality to me, but is there going to be anything more asthetically pleasing that is going to be available for these trucks, ever? $2k plus shipping is hard to swallow for wheels, but impossible when you factor in that they're really not all that cool looking.
