Bilstien Shocks

Those of you that are using Bilstien shocks, which GVW model did you go with? I am currently using Edlebrock shocks now but am wondering if the Bilstiens would not be a better choice given the higher GVW rating. Any comments on your experience with the Bilstiens would be appreciated.

I don't really have the answer to your question. I got mine from a shop that I have been doing business for over 20 years now. Their comment when I asked about a good set of shocks were that these were the softest shocks that would still get the job done. They were right. The ride is less harsh and the shocks do the appropiate damping. I do not know which model they put on. Sorry. I hope it help (even just a little).

I have had mine on for about two weeks now and like the ride. As was stated the front are F4-BE5-2549-HO and the rear are F4-BE5-2550-HO, they will state that they are for the 3500 but will fit both the 3500 and 2500. Jack

I have the heavier GVW Bilsteins that Bob Wagner refered to. They have been on for approx. 7 months and I love them!! They are a little stiffer than the factory, but the big difference is that they actually work like a shock should, especially on a rough gravel road, like the 35 miles out to the glacier. I had the Ranchos 9000 on my 98. 5 and the Bilsteins are far better on performance and the difference in quality is huge.

I have Ranchos on my Dodge because I haul heavy weight, but have used Bilsteins on a number of other trucks used off road. IMHO they are the best riding shocks made! They feel great on pavement and seem to improve handling but they really excel on washboard roads. If I did not have to lug a camper around I would have them on the Dodge.

Oh yeah, I think they look cool. Yellow tubes with flat blue (not accordian) boots. Unfortunately, Bilstein doesn't make a steering stabilizer, so I put on a white rancho with yellow boot. They all get along fine... .

I've run both Bilstein and Edelbrocks on my 2001 4x4. I like the control from the Bilsteins better. I live in the woods and go to Baja a couple times a year - lots of bumpy road driving. I believe the Bilsteins do a better job for the driving I do. Get the 8800 GVW rated Bilsteins, they ride as smooth as any shocks and control the very nose heavy Ram/Cummins well imo...

I ran the Monroe Senitracs for 40,000 miles took them off and they are still in good condition.



I just installed the Bilstiens.



The Monroe shocks had a better ride over the little bumps and cracks in the road, I feel them more with the Bilstiens.



The Bilstiens have more control over the big dips in the road and better control while pulling my 10,000 lb. racecar trailer.



So Far I am Happy!

Dane, did you notice a big difference between the Edlebrocks and the Bilsteins? Do the Bilsteins control the body roll well in your opinion? Also did they help the nose heavy problem of the front end better? Thanks Steve.

I am using the 2549 and 2550 Bilsteins. They go on both the 2500 and 3500. They are without a doubt the best quality shock made. Ride is firmer in some respects, but better control over railroad tracks and large bumps.



Rancho is owned by Monroe. I had them on a previous vehicle, and find the Bilsteins superior.
