Bio- Diesel color

Ok, I have been running B-20 for about a month and a half. I change my FF every 10,000 and at first I noticed that the fuel was a murky honey color. Thought that perhaps it was just the cleaning action of bio and that it would probably clear up. This morning during my filter change I noticed the the fuel had the same cloudy/murky brown/honey color. There was no sign of water or trash in the separator and the filter still looked new. So is this color normal? I live in the south so I'm pretty sure the Bio component is Soy based. Thanks.

Pure 100% biodiesel is a somewhat bright yellow color.

The stuff that I run (SHobbs here on the forums also) is rather dark in color sitting in the storage tanks. Looking at it when it goes in the truck, the color looks between honey and molasses but with a prodominate hint of yellow.

Does any of that make sense?

Sounds right to me, it all depends on the oil you start with some batches are much darker than others. I would guess that store bought bio should always look the same because they use new oil, or at least I assume they do.

What Navydood said, lol. Looks like honey to me. Best part about B100 is that when you change the fuel filter you don't smell diesel fuel for hours on your hands.

I'm gonna B50 the truck again tomorrow. Maybe I'll take a mason jar or clear bottle and post a pic of the B100. 11 gallons of B100 and fill the rest of the way up with b20 runs so nice in my truck.

I make my own diesel with used cooking oil from the local chinese food place(canola), and after a few hours of washing and putting it in a small glass jar and setting it in the sun it is a amber color... for a canola based fuel dark fuel means it has not been filtered or washed enough... but for olive and soy based diesel it is normal. make sure you know what the manufacturer is using so you know what to look for. biodieselsolutions.com has some good articles on how to tell quality diesel from junk, and what to look for in what base product diesel.
