Biodiesel

I don't know if I opened a can of worms or not, but last night I filled up with biodiesel for the first time. I'm being told that it will be a government mandated fact that biodiesel will be in all of the diesel fuel. I've also been told that biodiesel cleans the engine more? My truck only has 2000 miles on it. Any thoughts?

How much Bio fuel % did you use? The O and M guide for my 08 list a 5% level for personnel use only. Fleet users can go as high as 20%, but I am not a fleet owner.

I also am using two filters in my fuel system, a 5 micron and a 2 micron. I avoid Bio-diesel fuel at all cost. I just do not want injector issue from the crud in the bio-fuel and from the cleaning of the fuel system by ethanol.

There is a quite a few members that run biodiesel some make it themselves. Check out the altenative fuel forum.

If it is over 5 % you will need an extra filter like JimW but after running it a for while your fuel system should be cleaned out(actually the stuff they put in Ultra low sulfur diesel fuel should have cleaned out diesel suppliers, gas stations and our fuel sytems on our trucks when it came out).

Biodiesel also gells at higher temps than diesel.

I seek out B02 or B05 in the 'belief' that biodeisel is a superior lubricant to the ULSD sold at the pump. I add a lude when filling with ULSD but don't add anything if I can get B02/B05.



No proof, but I'm at 160K miles now with no problems!

I'm not sure what the % was for the fuel. The truck only has 2200 miles on it so I don't know how much dirt would have accumulated. I'm concerned it I go on a trip with the truck and can't find biodiesel will I have an issue. Do they add the winterizing materials to biodiesel like they should the regular fuel? Should I be adding an additive?

Are you asking if you can add regular diesel fuel to this tank of Bio-Fuel? Or are you asking if you use Bio-Fuel all the time can you use regular fuel if you can not find Bio-Fuel?

My answer would be yes in both cases. I would just carry an extra fuel filter to change out if the one on the engine becomes plugged. I carry an extra filter all the time with me.



I do not know if they add additives to Bio-Fuel or not for anti-jelling issues.
