My machine shed has become a favorite hangout for the birds lately. I'm looking for ideas on how to eliminate the birds, poisons are exceptable, shotgun holes are not. Any ideas that are industry proven or home brewed and proven to work would be appreciated. Nothing worse than a whitewashed truck. TIA

I wonder if there's a limit to how long the owl trick works. On my way home from work I drive by a building in old Longmont that has a plastic owl on the roof, literally draped in the nasty white runny stuff - almost like it became the bombardiers target! The pidgeons perch right next to it - "unruffled".

Is there a subtle trick to making this work, like mounting the owl so it can move or pivot?

There's a product called Sticky Foot or something like that that stays gooey and the bird don't like it. Might make a mess, though. An owl might work, but we had birds that put a hole in ours and made a nest inside it. :D

Load some 20 gauge shotshells with 1/2 OZ of #12 shot, and load them for about 850-900 FPS. They will not even penetrate drywall paper beyond 15 yards, but will make a real mess of the birds. 12ga will work too, even with a half ounce, but you are going to need to use a filler (cardboard cards work well) to get any sort of a crimp. You can shoot them in your shed without worry of hurting the building.

It is a whole lot more fun than owls and glue too:D !

If they are roosting at night we used a bb gun and shined a flashlight in their eye and shot them on the roost. Of course you have to wait till after dark. Killed a bunch of sparrows this way. Works best in the winter when they are trying to find warm places to roost.

I once fed a pigon a piece of chicken. The pigon drop the chicken did a strange dance making all kinds of racket  Thing was, I was at a friends house and did not even mind the pigons. I never thought that it would chase them away. It worked for a few weeks but they came back. Durdest thing I ever did see. I used to feed my game chickens chicken all the time, they really liked it.

I know this won't help you none, but kinda intresting.

I was in a barn up in montana looking at horses a while ago and the lady had a stereo system playing in there. She said they leave it on 24/7 and the birds never come into the barn. Soon as I get elec out to my barn I'm doing the same. I was amazed. I guess they think somebody's in there and stay out.

KEEP SHED DARK

After talking to people in the boat storage business, they said the secret was to keep the shed dark! Seems to work for me!!

. 22 ratshot works well. Holes in birds but no holes in the tin. I don't remember what size it is but it makes a 7 1/2 look like a cannon ball.
