Perfectly good new truck, and already I want more. Lucky for me some of the mods are "invisible" to the wife cause divorce would really drive up the prices paid for BOMBING the truck. Oh well... ... .....

Anyhow, naive question from a realitive newbie, and before anybody says anything, yes I will be swapping out my T/C as my next mod... ... ... ... By installing larger injectors, will this cause a possible voiding of warranty with the dealer or will they know? I consider the few mods I have done up till this point to be rather non-invasive. Any thoughts will be much appreciated.

Roger

PS. I use this truck for short commuting and towing an 8500# (dry weight) 5ver around the Pacific Northwest. I have all of the power I need as is, but... ... I may WANT more power!

Warranty + Bombs = Touchy Subject, be prepared for some strong opinions. :D Judging from one dealership around here I would expect major warranty problems if they found out I had injectors in my truck.

:D Ahhh, LUKE! WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE:cool: 275 injectors will not void the warranty as they are the motor home injector for this motor. Instead of 5 holes at the tip, they have 7 that are slightly smaller for better atomization of the fuel. :D First thing to get though, is a set of gages. Yep your right, you can't hide em but the wife will understand that you intend to keep this truck for LIFE. Remember, you just married her, as for the truck, you are now bonded at the hip for eternity. :D :D

WATCH THOSE GAUGES

Roger-

As everyone says, the gauges are definitely a must, but beware! When I took my truck in for warranty work, i. e, a new transmission when the old one went the way of the do do bird, the first thing the stealer did was go over my baby with a fine toothed comb looking for toys simply because he saw the gauges! He said that the odds of mods being on a truck when he sees a set of gauges is very high. So if you're going to do these mods and care about your warranty, then do something that is pretty well hidden like injectors or a box like the EZ that you can unplug and hide. Luckily, I didn't have my Comp in yet when I had the work sone, so I was ok.

That all being said, I much prefer my truck now that I said d*** the torpedoes and became my own warranty station. There was no life before smoke and torque! Hope this helps.

diesel dynamics make hi po injectors using the stock ones as the base. They appear stock but aint. There are also discreet ways to install the comp. There comes a point where the responsibility for repairs does fall on your shoulders though. An ez some injectors, some dealers will look the other way. dd3s and comp box is a little overboard.

Maybe I'm just a dumb redneck but when did 275's become warranty legal?

I may have stepped over a little here, but at MY dealer they will install them and cover them, but my dealer also covers lift-pumps. Sorry for the confusion.

:{ Lithia needs to take a lesson from those people! :{

Will 275's void your warrenty? Maybe. Will an EZ void your warrenty. Maybe. Some dealers sell 275's, and there have been cases reported where they sell EZ's too. I even heard a story in Munice about a dealer who replaced a headgasket, under warrenty, on a truck with twin turbos. I found that one hard to swallow, but none the less there was a claim of it at least. Some trucks use to be sold with Banks kits. Does Banks void your warrenty? Most say yes, some say no.

So will 275's void your warrenty, I know of a couple dealers here in Houston that would say yes, but I also know of a dealer in Michigan that will sell, and even install them for you. It's a dealer thing, not a black-n-white thing.

What is the incentive for dealer to refuse to do warranty work, if you upgrade your truck ? He is only one who see that, not manufacturer. If he decide not to fix that in warranty, lot of people, I think will be looking for cheaper alternative and he is losing money. Don't forget warranty work is the big chunk of money for every dealership. But maybe is somethink else in it for them.

M

I was told the dealers don't make much money for warranty work since DC will only pay like 40% of the labor rate for warranty work verses 100% for non warranty work. This would explain why it takes the bozos at the dealer 3-5 days to diagnose and replace the lift pump under warranty.

If the dealer is not getting much money for warranty, what incentive is there for the mechanic to place a priority on the your work?

If you happen to have a good dealer when it comes to warranty work, then you found a dealer in the third standard deviation.

Hey Rob & TxDieselKid,

Which dealers in MI are you guys talking about?! I'm not sure how my current dealer is with warranty work, but with my old 2500 gas guzzling V10, the dealer was real good about it. I think the truck was in weekly for repairs... .

Tony

Well to get around the wife thing. Get an EZ then tell her you reset the timing (Found it off a little) Thats what I did. Now I that have 40,000 miles on it must be time for a tune up (Injectors):D She liked the gauges so that was no problem.

fcharles,

I don't know what DC pays the dealer for warrenty work, but this dealer I'm refering to, tells me that is what they like. They focus on warrenty work, and claim to me anyhow, that they do more warrenty work than non, so it must pay. I didn't even buy my truck from them, and I've be treated great since the first time I went in for repairs. I simply told them that another local dealer sucked, and they (the other dealer) wanted me to drop my truck off and leave it for the whole day, for somethin' real stupid, yet simple to replace.

They told me to bring it in right then, and I was on my way, repaired in less than 1/2 hour, no appointment, right smack in the middle of the day, now thats service! I have never had to drop off my truck there, they always repair it while I wait, granted I haven't had it in for transmission work or major engine work.

They've bent over backwards for me, on a number of occasions, and will always get my bussieness. They even let me BS with the tech WHILE HE IS WORKING ON MY TRUCK! And I have assisted him (the tech) when need be. I almost love goin' to the dealer.

Tony,

Rather than slit my own throat, I won't post the dealers name on here, however if you keep it to yourself, and my name out of conversation with the dealer, I will PM you they're name and address. I also havee heard of another "good" dealer not to far from me, however I personally haven't had experiance with them.

Rob,

You must have gotten lucky and found a good dealer. My truck was with the dealer for 4 days for these bozos to figure out the lift pump was bad. The service mgr. was really ****** and cussed at me when I told him I thought it was the lift pump. He said something like, "there is just too much BS on the internet and you can't believe what you read. " This is the same guy that would not flash my ECM for the intermittant engine stumble even though I printed it out and gave it to him. He flashed it ONLY when the stumble happened at the dealership.

I won't go back to these guys ever again.

Charles

Charles,

Sorry to hear that, yep I must have been real lucky. Just to gloat a little more,:D they checked and replaced my lift-pump, and I was on my way in less than 1 1/2 houes, WITH A PUSHER-PUMP INSTALLED!! Of course they gave me some guff about the P-pump, but some thourogh explainin' by me, and they agreed to cover it. Gotta' love 'em!:D

Later, I gotta' go buy my dealer a box 'o chocolate's, Rob

Warranty:

275's void your warranty (275's are for freightliner motor home engines not Dodges), EZ's void your warranty,

Comp's void your warranty, DD's injectors void your warranty.

Any increase in fueling over the factories set parameters Technically void your warranty.

But, your warranty is still good until someone at your local stealer finds out you have done these evil things to your engine!

So, be careful.

The only fueling related power upgrade you can have that is truly warranty friendly is the "torqus maximus" ECM upgrade from Cummins which is too much money.

Just use common sense, if you want your warranty intact.
