Thanks, TDR Staff

exh. brake and backpressure?

Stacked EZ with my TST PMCR

Picked mine up today from NW Cummins in PDX. Very nice piece.

PN 3942136 cost me $65. 80

They quoted me $111. 00 for the Red, but I wanted black anyway. Red PN is 3943668

Would you mind taking a picture of the black one please? The local Cummins dealer is kinda not the sharpest tack in the bunch. Took me 3 weeks just to get a Reac Valve cover for Floor It.

Kat....

Sorry, I don't have access to a camera... . But, this is exactly the same cover as the red one... . same lettering, style, etc..... BUT, this isn't installed and I haven't seen a red one in person, so this is my best assumption that Cummins isn't manufacturing a bunch of different valve covers... except, you've probably seen the one used in Banks ads which shows the oil filler cap at the back of the cover. I believe these are the motor home applications. Again, that cover looks identical except for oil filler location.

I know what you mean about some of the Cummin's parts folks.

I called back just now to be certain there was no confusion on the part numbers, and :( I got another story. ( The guy who took my original order was not at work)

The PN on my invoice is 3942136, and like I said, I paid $65. 80.

When the guy punched in the number, he said it shows that this PN has been superceded, and the current PN is 3945799, and the cost is ~$68. 00. Further, the description for 3945799 only says it is "Base Engine Color"..... which we know is black. He could not explain how I ended up with the "old" PN... . it was even on the packing box.

I did verify again, that the red cover is 3943668 and cost is $112. 00.

Apologies if this appears to be too much into, but I don't want to be the source for some other TDR member's headache in trying to buy one of these... .

Just so there is no confusion

24V-DSL did call me this a. m. to conferm part number and pricing, and he is right that we sold him the older part #. What he failed to tell you is that the reason we did so is because when he ordered his cover we didn't have stock of the new part #. To make sure we could make another happy customer we ordered in the part next day air from the factory. When the factory informed us they didn't have one to send we pulled some strings with the factory and had them pull one off the assembly line to send to us. It just happens that when they did this, the new cover was not painted. That is why we had to sorce the old part # from someplace else to get the customer what he wanted. I must admit I am a little offended that it was implied that we are confused here at Cummins Northwest. I assure you we are not. I know that at times it may seem so from the outside, but we will ALWAYS do our best to make our customers happy, and get them what they both want and need.

OUCH!

The price you paid for that black Cummins valve cover is killin' me!

I purchased a red Cummins valve cover ($113. + tax)..... only to remove all the red powder coat "paint" while machining/sanding off the ribs and lettering. :D:D Naturally, I had to trick out and detail the remainder of the valve cover prior to have it chrome plated.:eek:

One of a kind...

... and lovin' it!

Big dose of humble pie....

I have already apologized to LAnthony by phone. My reference, in sympathy to Kat's remark about his frustration with his local Cummins dealer, was based on two unhappy experiences I had with Cummins Home Office over 9 months ago. NOT Cummins NW.

All NW Bombers, and anyone else who would have reason to contact Cummins NW in Portland, Or. 888-289-0900.

I have called them several times with questions, and purchased filters and this valve cover. Their advice has always been accurate and their customer service is excellent. They really act like there're glad you called.

BTW, when I posted, I knew Mr. Anthony was a TDR member and I told him I was going to post. In spite of that, I still inadvertedly stuck my foot way down my throat by not being more careful of my choice of words..... :(

I'm going to my room now..... Joe

Come on 24V-DSL, I won a very nice Cummins leather coat that was donated by Cummins NW of Portland, OR. at the Timberline Dodge/TDR rally last summer. Cummins NW provides very good support for this event!

LAnthony, please say Hi! :) to Tessa for me!

Thanks Oasis-3!!! That Red looks great! What is the P/N for the Red Valve cover???? I may want to put one on my truck when I start to put in the DDII's!

Haney

P/N 3943668 for the red valve cover

I got it at Cummins Power Systems Inc.

in Glen Burnie, MD

75. 44 + tax 3. 77 = 79. 21 and it was shiped to my door. Oo.

Cliff

Question about the Black Valve cover. Is the lettering (Cummins 24 Valve with stripes) painted silver like the Red Valve Cover?

I'll be installing DDII's and Would like to replace the Dodge Valve Cover as well.

Also, when you phoned in your order did you have to say you were a TDR member to get a price break???

Mactruck

Yes, it's identical to the red cover.

BUT..... the color is more charcoal than pitch black. I really didn't notice until it was installed. There is a definite contrast between the cover and the other black painted engine components, like your stock cover. It doesn't have that deep look you expect from black. I'm not sure I like it, but the quality and weight are far superior to stock, so it's staying.

I did not mention anything about TDR to get the price.

24V-DSL,

Can you post a pic of your cover installed? I just ordered a black valve cover but if it doesn't really match I may change to red.

Thanks,

Doug

I am looking to buy one of the black valve covers... . The part number I have is different from the one you posted. I show part # 3937121 as the Cummins black valve cover. Does anyone know which one is correct?

Doug

Doug.....

Sorry, no pics.

I don't know about the PN you post, but if you look back at the beginning of this thread, you'll see reference to two PN's..... guess this is one of those "superceded" deals.

Call Lane at Cummins NW 888. 289. 0900 He is a TDR member and a very nice guy. He'll get you the answer you need.

If you want the look of the valve cover to be jump right out cool, then because of my comment about the charcoal color not matching up with the alternator bracket, etc. , you might be happier with the red. The "black" cover look doesn't jump right out and grab you, IMO.

hope this helps.
