do painted wheels, need black lug nuts?

I just painted a set of stock wheels and the stock lug nuts are way to shiny.

Does any one know where I can get some black or dark colored lug nuts.

I dont want to run the stock hub caps because i think they are soooo ugly.

There is a chemical blacking process that will leave them flat black... its used to treat metal to prevent rusting... . The chemicals are available from most industrial suppliers but would not expect to find them in less that 1 or 5 gallon containers... . I suggest that you call one or two industrial machinists in your neck of the woods and see who does chemical blackening... .

sorry, I dont know of any place to buy black lugs, but i have had good glassbeading lugs and then using VHT wheel paint om them. i then use one of those polymer coated sockets to install them and themm hold up really well. P. S. couls you post some pics of the truck with the painted wheels? i was thinking about doing this to my steel wheels, thanks

I was going to powdercoat the whole wheel, but with stripping and coating i was looking at $90 a wheel. Paint was about $30. 00 for all four. (primer, hammered black, and clear) and 4 sheets of 400 wet paper.

Powdercoating the lugs seems costly, but ill check into it. I was afraid paint would not hold up.

I had the chrome clad wheels, which were awfully cheap looking. I will post some photos when i get the tires mounted up. I might just run the dumb center caps... dunno?

Look in my RR Gallery. Sanded, Primed, Textured Rustoleum, Clear. So far they are holding up just fine, no chips/scratches.

The pic of the wheel/tire only doesn't do justice. For some reason the tire looks really faded, guessing the flash on the camera.

nuke,

I painted the wheels but dont know about the lug nuts, those little guys are what im worried about not holding up if painted.

You can also purchase lug nut covers. I bought some black ones for my Jeep TJ and they are actually quite nice. Bought them from Quadratec, but not sure if they still sell them; it's been a couple years.

Nuke, no luck on quadratec. I think I may just live with the shinny ones for now. As far as the powdercoat goes i suspect it wold cost more than i care to spend on these and it would be a tight fit on the socket for sure.

I wonder if the black lug nut covers that GM uses on their center caps would work? Just a thought.

Oh, and I may have found a supplier for black lug nuts.

Worth a try.

THat is nice!! I really like the look. I'm in the process of changing over rims as well. REally don't know what to do but you did well.

I had to touch up the paint after mount and balance. I chipped the paint on the edge, plus i painted the wheel weights.

I dont think the paint will hold up for very long, but im only out $35 for the paint and a couple hours.

Those rims look killer painted black, I kind of like the shiny lugnuts, doesn't look half bad. What size tires are you running and how big is your lift kit? I just put the mopar fender flares and rear wheel well liners on my truck and it looks awesome, I think that your truck would look great with the flares, and the liners really help keep the underside of your truck clean.

The tires are half gone, from my old wrecked truck. Thats were I got the wheels as well. The tires are 285/70/17 good year MTR. They have about 15-18k miles on them.

The lift is just a 2'' leveling kit with overload spring replacement in rear from Carli susp. It rides very nice and leveled it out nice. I do have air bags in the rear.

I would like to get the flares and then have them linex-ed with the rocker panels.

Then get rid of the chrome door guards and the rear chrome bumper.

I need to find someone with a LT truck who wants the chrome grill surround to swap for the flat black one. Anyone wanna trade. Maybe upgrade there work truck?
