I have a 1998 24 valve. My oil does not get soot black like the new 2004 trucks do. Could someone please explain the difference in these motors that cause the oil in the new cummins to get black so quickly.

Thanks

Ken

The black is the soot in the oil. The more power you make the more soot pushes around the rings. A new truck is rated at a higher HP. Also the condition or the rings will change soot level. A new truck may not be broke in yet so the rings dont seal as well.
