I've noticed that most of the 06's I've been looking at have this cheap looking black paint on the tail pipes shocks, springs, and so on. Whats up with this? It looks as though this painting is done after the truck is built because I've seen overspray on the front wheel well liners.

My '04 and some new 06's have the regular silver exhaust pipe with none of this afterthought paint on the chassis. I am curious as to why this is being done and only on certain trucks? I feel that it looks cheap, especially the overspray on the liners. I just wondered if any of you agree and know why this is being done?

Maybe the dealer is adding "tru-coat" (remember Fargo?)

You know, an anti-rust coating. That would be my bet. There's like a 100% or higher profit margin on those products.

I was looking at a 06 Mega Cab a few days ago and didn't notice the black paint. Maybe it is just certain trucks like you say or maybe since your up North maybe something to do with rust-proofing. I don't know just a guess.

I did notice the sticker price on the one I looked at though 54K+ :--)

Yep, $54k for a 3500 Laramie Megacab 4x4. Sure is a sweet ride, but I think I'm holding on to my '03 for a while.

Side note- My g/f signed off on twins tonight! Yeah, baby!

er, turbos, not kids...

My '05 has a thin coat of black paint all over a lot of things underneath the truck. And as noted, there is plenty of overspray on things that make it obvious this was done with the majority of components already installed on the truck. Pretty cheesy looking when viewed from under the truck.

It is cheesy. What I can't figure out is why it's only done to certain trucks. I have not experienced any rusting of my silver tailpipe nor do I see it neccessary to use a rattle can of black paint on the visible frame in the wheel wells.

Oh well, I guess I need to get a life :-laf .
